Kendall Jenner Deleted Instagram Because She Needed A ‘Detox’ [Video]
Kendall Jenner deleted Instagram on Sunday in a move shocked her followers and fans. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star unexpectedly deleted her Instagram account without a word or explanation, but the model opened up about her decision to leave the popular photo-sharing app during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday.
Show host Ellen DeGeneres talked with Kendall Jenner about how big of a deal her decision was in the media, because even news organizations like CNN were talking about it. The second youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan said that it seemed crazy to her that it was such a big news item this week and she didn’t expect that it would receive so much attention, according to Us Weekly.

“But I also took my Twitter off my phone. Like I didn’t delete my Twitter entirely, but I took the app off my phone so I had no idea anybody was talking about it,” Kendall Jenner said about deleting Instagram. “I honestly didn’t think anyone would care.”
Because Kendall Jenner didn’t have access to Twitter, she didn’t even realize that deleting Instagram was such a big deal in the media. But she said that her friends and family members kept sending her links to news stories about her her deleted Instagram account.
Kendall Jenner’s decision to delete Instagram is a big deal because the reality TV star was one of the most followed models on the popular app, Allure Magazine reported. As of September, Kendall had 61 million Instagram followers and a photo she posted of herself laying on a floor with her hair shaped into a crown of hearts gained more than three million likes and it was the most-liked Instagram photo of 2015, according to Time Magazine.
She was a savvy user, so it was a shock to fans when she decided to delete her account. Many speculated that Jenner’s older sister Kim Kardashian West’s social media absence had an influence on her, as previously reported by the Inquisitr. But fans finally found out the reason why Kendall Jenner deleted Instagram during her interview on the show.
“You know, I just wanted to detox and it felt like, I just needed a break,” Kendall revealed. “I’m always on it. I would wake up in the morning and look at it first thing, I would go to bed and it was the last thing I look at. I felt a little too dependent on it so I wanted to take a minute, it’s a detox. I’ll be back, I’ll come back.”
Jenner said that it’s only been two days since she deleted her Instagram account, but she’s already experienced withdrawal from the app, and Ellen asked if she misses scrolling through her feed.
“Kinda but that’s kind of the beauty of it,” Kendall said. “Like, I find myself, I’ll be on my phone and I’ll find myself like going to click on Instagram and it won’t be there. I kind of like, love that. It’s kind of a nice, refreshing feeling.”
Ellen said it would be interesting to see how long Kendall Jenner can go without Instagram in her life, and she said that it’s a really nice feeling not to be constantly on a smartphone. Kendall told the audience that she suggests taking a social media break every now and then because it forces you to be present in the moment and to have real life conversations with people in person.
It’s a similar sentiment that she shared during an interview with Allure Magazine last month. Kendall said that she regularly deletes the Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter apps from her phone for days at a time.
