‘The Walking Dead’: Jeffrey Dean Morgan Hints Rick Grimes Got Off Easy — Negan’s Love Affair With Lucille In ‘TWD’ [Spoilers]
The Walking Dead Season 7 revealed who Negan killed and fans were devastated. Since the season premiere, viewers have learned a bit about Dwight and the Saviors. Additionally, Negan decided to pay Alexandria a visit earlier than expected. Recently, Jeffrey Dean Morgan talked about the score between Negan and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). TWD spoilers are ahead. If you don’t want to risk finding out anything that is going to happen, then do not continue reading.
As fans recall from the last episode of The Walking Dead, Negan visited Alexandria shortly after killing Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) and Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz). On Talking Dead, it was revealed that only three days had passed since the brutal murders. In an interview with USA Today, Jeffrey Dean Morgan didn’t offer any excuses for Negan. However, the TWD actor did bring up the fact that Negan only killed two of Rick’s men in contrast to the number of the Saviors that were killed last season.
“I’m not going to make excuses for him. But in this world, the people that have survived this long since the zombie apocalypse all have done things that are bad. Negan just happens to take a little bit of glee (in) exercising justice, but this is a man who also leads a group of people and keeps them alive. Rick’s group has killed (more than 20) of his men, and so far Negan has only touched two of them.”
The Walking Dead actor also talked about Negan’s barbed wire baseball bat, Lucille. Morgan said that Negan is never without the weapon and it is a bit of a love story.
“Negan loves this bat. [Lucille is a] part of who he is and who he’s become in this apocalyptic world, and you’ll never see Negan without her. It’s a little bit of a love story.”
Speaking of what to expect next on The Walking Dead, Jeffrey Dean Morgan teased that fans will see a bit of the person he used to be.
“You’re going to see glimpses of the human he once was. In this world, you’re not going to be a schoolteacher forever. You can’t survive. I don’t think the hatred is going to go away, but maybe you’ll love to hate him a little bit as you get to know more about him, and he’ll make you smile when you probably don’t want to.”
“Go Getters” is the title for The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 5. According to Spoiler TV, the synopsis teases that some Alexandrians will try to find safety at the Hilltop Colony. However, a promo clip reveals that the community is threatened by Simon, one of the Saviors. Fans will also see some interaction between Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs). There will also be a scene with Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan).
On the last episode, Negan was led to believe that she died. Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) even showed the TWD villain the cemetery and asked if he wanted to pay his respects. Rubbing salt in the wound, Negan then told Rick Grimes he was considering taking Maggie back to the Sanctuary, presumably to be one of his wives.
