‘The Crown’ Season 2 Release Date: Netflix Show Cast Members Confirm Second Season

The Crown has quickly become another runaway hit for streaming provider Netflix. With that in mind, it’s safe to assume that Netflix would be keen to produce a second season of the royal drama. That second season of The Crown has now been confirmed by a number of the show’s cast members, but when will it be released and which cast members will return? In this article, we’ll take a look at everything we know so far about Season 2 of Netflix’s hit royal drama, The Crown.

Will there be a second season of The Crown?

According to the Radio Times, quickly following the success of the series’ first season, Matt Smith, who plays Prince Phillip and Claire Foy, who plays a young Queen Elizabeth II, both confirmed that they’d be returning for a second season. That’s not just the presumption of the cast either, with the show’s producers confirming that Netflix has already ordered a second season. In fact, to further cement the deal, both Smith and Foy have confirmed that they’ve already begun rehearsals for The Crown Season 2.

That being said, the show’s main stars were keen to stress that they won’t play their parts on the show forever. However, that’s no surprise considering The Crown plans to document the life of Queen Elizabeth II over the course of a number of decades, meaning that young actors like Smith and Foy won’t always be a perfect fit.

How long will The Crown Season 2 be?

Netflix is yet to officially confirm how many episodes The Crown Season 2 will be comprised of, with the streaming provider likely to be discussing the matter with writer Peter Morgan. However, producer Andrew Eaton has said that he expects another 10 episode run out of the show’s second season. That would make sense considering Netflix is typically pretty consistent when it comes to the length of its original shows on a season to season basis, however, an exception could be made if needed for The Crown.

Does The Crown Season 2 have a release date?

Whilst The Crown has been officially confirmed to be receiving a second season, according to Netflix Life, there’s no official release date as of yet. That being said, as aforementioned, Foy and Smith both confirmed that they’re already rehearsing ahead of another eight-month shoot. With that in mind, Netflix appears to be sticking to a pretty strict schedule with Season 2 of The Crown, meaning that fans of the show may not have to wait all that long in order to get a glimpse of Season 2.

What’s more, Netflix is known to have something of a strict schedule when it comes to the release of its original programming. Shows including House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black often release within the same window each year, which strongly suggests that The Crown Season 2 will be released in November next year.

As to be expected, details around the second season of Netflix’s The Crown are still a little thin on the ground. However, the fact that the show has already been renewed for a second season is definitely promising news for fans of the royal drama. However, the pace at which Netflix plans to move with The Crown is yet to be seen, meaning that main cast members Claire Foy and Matt Smith could have to be replaced after only two seasons of the show.

The Crown Season 2 will return to Netflix next year.
