Miley Cyrus was not a happy hippie when Donald Trump was elected the 45th president of the United States, but the former Hannah Montana star is finding ways to slowly heal her broken heart. Over the weekend, she got by with a little help from her friends and her Aussie boyfriend, The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth.
Miley Cyrus didn’t let a little post-election stress stop her from having a blast at the ’80s-themed birthday party of Liam Hemsworth’s brother, Westworld star Luke Hemsworth. Partygoers were encouraged to dress up in ’80s attire, but the birthday boy stood out from the sea of neon tank tops and headbands in a He-Man costume that included shiny fake muscles and a giant plastic sword. Instead of dressing up like an animated action hero, Miley’s boyfriend decided to rock some standard ’80s attire: a pair of sunglasses, a yellow neon tank top, and a pair of short red athletic shorts. Liam completed his loud look with a long wig.
As Entertainment Tonight reports, Miley Cyrus chose a costume that wasn’t quite as colorful. She rocked a dark Madonna T-shirt with a black leather miniskirt, and she accessorized her look with a few long strings of pearls. Miley looked like she was having a blast at the party, and many of her fans will likely be happy to see her enjoying herself after what she went through last week.
Perhaps Miley Cyrus chose to pay homage to Madonna because the older singer also supported Hillary Clinton during the grueling presidential race. As Reuters reports, Madonna responded to Clinton’s shocking loss to President-elect Donald Trump by vowing to fight .
“A New Fire Is Lit. We Never Give Up. We never Give In,” the Material Girl tweeted.
However, as E! News reports, Miley Cyrus had a harder time moving on after Clinton failed to win the presidency. In a tearful video, Miley talked about the sadness that she was experiencing and expressed her disappointment that America did not elect its first female president.
“I just wish that she had that opportunity. because she fought for so long and because I believe her when she says that she loves this country. This is all she’s ever done. She’s given her life to make it better,” Cyrus said.
However, The Voice star told her followers that she’s not going to fight the outcome of the election like some other celebrities are doing.
“And so Donald Trump, I accept you,” Cyrus said. “And this hurts to say, but I even accept you as the President of the United States, and that’s fine…because I think now I want to be hopeful.”
While Miley Cyrus may be willing to accept Donald Trump as president, many of his supporters are refusing to accept Miley’s American citizenship. As the Inquisitr previously reported, some Trump voters responded to his election night win by flooding Miley’s Instagram page with demands that she move to another country . These comments were in response to a previous statement Miley made about leaving the U.S. if Donald Trump won the presidency.
However, Miley Cyrus isn’t going anywhere, and she’s not crying over Donald Trump anymore. In other words, her “Party in the U.S.A.” isn’t over.
“Ok, so no more crying from me. I am accepting and hopeful, inspired and smiling,” Cyrus said in a follow-up video.
According to the pop star, now she’s ready to act. She and her Happy Hippie Foundation charity have launched #HopefulHippies in honor of Hillary Clinton, and Miley is hoping that the hashtag will inspire her fans to make a difference.
“Many of us aren’t sure what to do after the election, but now more than ever it’s important for us to come together and take action to work for the America we want,” Miley wrote on Instagram. “That’s why we’re launching #HopefulHippies, and I’m asking you to get involved in your own community and make a commitment to the issues you care about, whether it’s donating, volunteering or showing your support!”
Miley is encouraging her Instagram followers to use the #HopefulHippies hashtag to pledge their support for the call to action, and she included a link to a list of organizations that need donations and programs that need volunteers. The Happy Hippies website makes it easy for activists to find ways to support causes that they’re passionate about by listing all the information that they need under six different categories: Education, LGBTQ Rights, Women’s Rights, Social Justice, Homeless Youth, and Mental Health.
It looks like Miley Cyrus has discovered that taking action and trying to do good is the best way to get over those post-election blues, but an ’80s-themed party also does the psyche good.
