Netflix ‘The Crown’ Is Portraying Prince Philip As A Bit Of A Jerk

Before the Netflix series The Crown, most people just saw Prince Philip as the nice little old man who follows several paces behind Queen Elizabeth, but now, social media is all lit up with people saying that Matt Smith as Prince Philip is kind of a jerk. The Crown is taking a microscope to the early days of the reign of Queen Elizabeth, and introducing a whole new generation to the players behind palace walls.

Princess Margaret is also being seen in a different way on The Crown, as most people today think of William and Harry when people speak of “the heir and the spare,” but the original 20th century heir and spare were Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, according to the Inquisitr. Season 1 of The Crown saw Princess Margaret’s hopes for a marriage to Peter Townsend dashed because he was divorced.

Refinery 29 says that Prince Philip is not that bad, as played by Matt Smith, before now, best known as one of the actors who played Dr. Who. For the first season of The Crown, Prince Philip seems to be shocked about what it really means to be married to the Queen of England, and is a bit fussy about the adjustment.

Prince Philip sees himself as losing his identity, and by the end of season one, he is trying to wrestle it back from his wife, Queen Elizabeth II. It’s as if Prince Philip didn’t realize that he would be in the shadow of the Queen, always walking behind her, and having his children take the name Windsor instead of Mountbatten.

Philip seems to be a party boy, drinking, and spending his days at his gentleman’s lunch club. He takes off with his chums for what seems like days at a time to fish and hunt. Prince Philip sulks like a petulant child.

Fans of the show have gone onto Twitter to comment on the behavior of the young Prince Philip.

“It has become clear the reason the first elizabeth never married is that the husbands of queens are fcking pissbabies.”

“Watching The Crown & get the feeling I’m supposed to have positive feelings about Philip. Instead, I want Elizabeth to dump his ass. Yeesh.”

“The Crown is turning my beloved 11th Doctor into a dick as Prince Philip and I do not like it.”

“How many times in netflix’s the crown does philip ask someone a deeply racist question?”

Matt Smith was asked what he thinks about fans seeing Prince Philip as a twit.

“He’s not!! He’s a rock star. He’s a maverick. He’s kind, he’s witty, he’s groovy. He’s the sort of alien of the group who says everything and he does say things that he shouldn’t.”

The Mirror is celebrating Prince Philip’s top 90 gaffes in honor of his 90th birthday. It seems that Prince Philip never heard about political correctness, or even manners. To a female sea cadet, he asked, “Do you work in a strip club?” To a tourist in Budapest, Prince Philip asked, “You can’t have been here long, you haven’t got a pot belly.”

Prince Philip Used Hitler’s title to address German chancellor Helmut Kohl in 1997, he called him: “Reichskanzler.” After Dunblane massacre, 1996, he asked “If a cricketer suddenly decided to go into a school and batter a lot of people to death with a cricket bat, are you going to ban cricket bats?”

Fingers crossed the Prince Philip seems to grow up a bit on screen for Season 2 of The Crown.
