Islamic Magazine Suggests Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Is Excellent Target For Lone Wolf Terror Attack, Millions Expected In NYC Despite ISIS Terrorist Threat [Report]

Millions of people are expected to head to New York City for the 90th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 24 despite a new report that suggests an ISIS terrorist attack could be in the works. Coupled with anti-Trump protests in Manhattan, anyone who plans to kick off the holidays in NYC will be well aware of the heightened security in the city.

Although a statement regarding a possible Thanksgiving Day terror attack has not been issued by U.S. authorities or the NYPD, Heavy reports that an article in the most recent edition of the Islamic State magazine “Rumiyah” suggests that Macy’s annual parade that runs right down the center of Manhattan would be “an excellent target” for an attack that would be carried out by a “lone wolf operative.”

“In the article, ISIS makes suggestions about how to implement a VBIED, or vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, attack,” write’s Heavy contributor S.J. Prince. “It then also suggests to the would-be jihadist to have a secondary weapon.”

This type of threat to major events in the Big Apple isn’t new, but it is still a major concern to travelers who are hoping to get a glimpse of the spectacular balloons and floats at this year’s parade.

Last year, Fortune reported that the NYPD put an additional 1,300 officers on duty at the parade after a video rumored to be produced by ISIS threatened an attack on Times Square.

This year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade terror attack concerns come just one week after feds warned New York City officials that the city was one of three locations considered to be possible targets for an Election Day terror attack. Reuters reports that law enforcement authorities were on “high alert” in the days leading up to the election and the heightened security hasn’t stopped since then.

Police Commissioner William Bratton told FOX News that the city was “well-prepared” for a potential terrorist attack last year and although a statement has yet to be made about the security in the city on Thanksgiving, the department is already making its presence known in the streets in mid-town Manhattan where President-elect Donald Trump resides.

According to a previous report from the Inquisitr, a no-fly zone over midtown Manhattan was implemented by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) when Trump was elected on November 8 and barriers now block off 56th Street between Fifth and Madison, the area that surrounds the Trump Tower where the President-elect lives with his wife, Melania, and the couple’s 10-year-old son, Barron.

Residents and tourists who are currently in New York City have also seen an uptick in police presence due to the anti-Trump protests that have not let up all week. With thousands of protestors taking to the streets in the area surrounding Trump Tower, the New York Daily News reports that more than 65 people have been arrested since the protests started after Trump was declared the winner of the 2016 presidential election on Tuesday night.

If you are one of the millions who plan to kick off the holiday season by attending the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, not only will security be tight in Midtown Manhattan, you may experience delays if you are traveling to and from the city by way of LaGuardia or JFL airports.

ABC reports that aircraft will be banned that comes within a two-mile radius of the 58-story Trump Tower, prompting possible travel delays from now until Trump moves to the White House in January.

However, the heightened security in NYC could go on even longer with the NY Times reporting that Trump informed his advisors that he wants to spend “as much time as he can at his beloved Trump Tower penthouse” and may only stay at the White House on weekdays.
