Chevy Chase Loses His Cool On The Set Of ‘Community’
Chevy Chase reportedly lost his cool on the set of the NBC sitcom Community, Deadline is reporting. The actor, who plays a bigot on the aforementioned television program, is rumored to be unhappy with how his character is developing. His recent on-set meltdown is rumored to be a direct result of his growing frustration.
Production came to a screeching halt on Friday after Chase decided to vocalize his increasing discomfort with his character, Pierce. Angry and upset about the script, the actor dropped the N-word while describing what, exactly, the writers intend to have his character say next. The cast was reportedly upset about Chase’s recent outburst, prompting him to apologize for his behavior. It’s worth noting, however, that the racial slur was in no way directed at co-stars Donald Glover or Yvette Nicole Brown.
According to Entertainment Weekly, producers have yet to comment on the situation. It’s also unclear how they intend to address Chevy Chase’s latest on-set outburst.
This is not the first time the actor has decided to express his feelings while filming Community. Chase is known for storming off the set if he’s unhappy with one aspect of the production or another. In fact, his confrontations with series creator Dan Harmon came to head last year when Chase left a particularly nasty message on Harmon’s voice mail.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, new producers David Guarascio and Moses Port were happy to report that they had yet to experience any problems with Chase. That dry spell has apparently come to an end.
“The truth is we’ve had a very easy working relationship with Chevy, maybe just because it was so volatile before, there’s no fight left,” Guarascio said. “We sat down, had a real nice lunch. There’s a little bit of us just like that’s ‘It’s f—ing Chevy Chase! I can’t believe it.’ And so it’s been really easy for us. He also says what he wants to say and does what he wants to do, and you just can’t control any of that aspect of it.”
