Oxford Mother Jasmine Gregory Gets Three Years For Leaving Baby To Drown In Bath
The baby of Jasmine Gregory died after being left to drown in a bath for 10 minutes, and today, the mother received a light sentence of three years during her trial at Oxford Crown Court.
According to the Oxford Mail, Jasmine Gregory could be seen sobbing as she was sentenced to three years for leaving her baby to drown in a bath. BBC News reports the Oxford mother “became distracted” for 10 minutes while she was giving her baby a bath. It has also been reported that Jasmine Gregory was believed to have been drinking earlier that day.
The Daily Mail describes the Oxford mother who left her baby to drown in her bath as “volatile” and “immature.” Jasmine Gregory has officially been convicted of manslaughter because she allegedly drank two bottles of cider before leaving her 14-month-old baby girl alone in a bath for roughly 10 minutes.
The 24-year-old Oxford mother had just been warned by a social worker hours before the baby was left to drown in a bath not to leave the baby unattended in the home. Gregory is now claiming to have forgotten the baby was home.
It was revealed to the court that Jasmine Gregory had been reported to social services for leaving her baby unattended “several times” before the incident occurred. A foster parent revealed to the court that Jasmine Gregory was reported for leaving her baby unsupervised in a bath before, as well as being unsupervised while near an oven. The foster mother who, for legal reasons, cannot be named, claimed it happened “on more than one occasion.”
“She would walk out of the bathroom, I remember very clearly a couple of times her leaving the bathroom. I very clearly reiterated that she must not do that. I told her ‘you stay with the baby in the bathroom.'”
Before it was discovered that the baby had drowned in her bath, witnesses reported the Oxford mother ran out of her home in order to ask people passing by where her baby was. After the baby had been left alone in a bathtub for 10 minutes, the mother was found in the house holding the lifeless body of her daughter.
It is being reported that the Oxford mother repeatedly shouted that it had been “less than ten minutes” since she left her baby in the bath. After the events unfolded, Gregory later revealed that she had been “so busy” and only spent a brief amount of time downstairs.

Jasmine Gregory reported the water in the bath came up to about the chest of her daughter. However, the baby was found lying face down in the bath. An eyewitness claims to later have seen the Oxford mother carrying the “grey and limp” body of her daughter.
It was revealed during the mother’s trial at Oxford Crown Court that Jasmine had consumed two pints of cider the same day the baby drowned. A bottle that was almost empty was later found near the kitchen sink. The Oxford mother’s defense team claims the mother was not guilty of manslaughter.
“A mistake and even very serious errors of judgment are nowhere near enough for a crime of manslaughter to have been committed.”
The jury ended up rejecting the defense but ultimately gave what many are describing as a “light sentence” of two years. Theresa Andrews, the grandmother of the Oxford baby, wrote a victim impact statement that was read during the trial. In the statement, the grandmother paid tribute to the baby. She claimed the baby could light up a room with her laughter and smile. She described her as “the brightest button you could ever imagine.”
Below the grandmother talks about the pain the entire family is going through after the Oxford baby was left to drown in her bath for roughly 10 minutes.
“We feel no pain, just numbness which will ever go away. There are no words to describe how we feel. She was let down in the worst possible way by the person she should be able to rely on. For over two years we’ve been trying to piece it together. Every day is torture, we don’t live any more, we just get through the best we can. Our hearts went to the grave with Robyn. We haven’t even had a note or apology from Jasmine for what she did. We’re putting our trust in the law to give our angel the rest she deserves.”
A jury consisting of eight women and four men came to a unanimous decision after less than two hours of deliberating.
