If you are feeling stressed over current events, or are just tired of hearing about it, Netflix offers some of the best series that are binge-worthy and offer a good escape. Netflix’s House of Cards is critically acclaimed and it is a compelling series, but probably isn’t the break from politics that you are looking for. Whether you are heavily involved in politics and need a break, or simply want a relaxing evening at home without thinking about the stresses of life, Netflix has the answer for you. Some of the shows listed below are Netflix originals, and others are TV series that are often overlooked.
The Usual Suspects
Even those that aren’t Netflix subscribers, or avid TV watchers, have heard of popular shows like Daredevil and American Horror Story . But newer Netflix audiences may not have yet seen these shows; and for those that have, revisiting them makes for a good breather.
Orange is the New Black
One wouldn’t think that a show about a woman serving time in prison (based on a true story) would be so refreshing—but it is!
Stranger Things
Often regarded as the most popular series on Netflix, this show is easy to binge watch as there is only one season with eight episodes.
Jessica Jones
Not every Marvel show will give you a break from politics. Although well done, much needed, and very popular, Luke Cage is likely to remind you of current events. But for those wanting a show that is both compelling and fanciful, Jessica Jones may be the superhero you are looking for.
Master of None
One of the highest-rates series on Netflix, Master of None offers plenty of laughs.

American Horror Story
For those that think things couldn’t get any worse, at least you aren’t living in a haunted house or an insane asylum. This is a great series for those wanting to forget reality while being scared at the same time.
The Best Overlooked Series on Netflix
iZombie
Though this show is very popular among people who are fans of comic books and the “zombie” genre, many people overlook this series thinking that it will be more of the usual. But the genius of this show is that it breathes new life into the genre by adding unique twists. At times, it is as laugh-out-loud funny as it is dramatically compelling.

Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp
If you are looking for a series that will offer you nothing serious at all, then this Netflix original is perfect! Based on the hilarious satirical movie ( Wet Hot American Summer ), this show serves as a prequel and pokes fun at ’80s sex-comedies.
Arrested Development
Though it was popular among both viewers and critics, this series seems to remain in the “cult classic” category as it never received mainstream attention. A stellar cast paired with brilliant writing makes Arrested Development one of the funniest series on Netflix.
Lady Dynamite
Another Netflix original series, Lady Dynamite tells a story based on the true-life events of comedian Maria Bamford.

Louie
What’s funnier than a stand-up routine from Louis C.K.? A series based on his life!
Twin Peaks
In one of the most bizarre TV shows of all-time, Twin Peaks is funny, spooky, confusing, and compelling, often all at the same time. Creative Loafing describes why this is one of the best series on Netflix .
“Not since ‘Who shot J.R.?’ had TV asked a question as compelling as ‘Who killed Laura Palmer?’ David Lynch’s startling series brought big-screen innovation (and the director’s patented eccentricities) to the boob tube with a murder-mystery that found FBI Agent Dale Cooper (an excellent Kyle MacLachlan) sleuthing in the title town, a place as notable for its oddball citizenry as its killer cherry pie.”
