Taylor Swift admitted in a recent interview that she wrote her recent breakup song to annoy an ex-boyfriend whenever he heard it on the radio.
The singer dished that she came up with “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” as a way to drive one of her exes crazy whenever it appeared, reports The San Francisco Chronicle .
The break-up anthem, which appears on the the singer’s newest album “Red” is an attempt to exact revenge on the still unnamed former lover who belittled her music.
Swift also stated that she wished the song would get as much airplay as possible, so that she’d have the greatest chance at annoying him. The singer stated:
“[It’s] a definitive portrait of how I felt when I finally stopped caring what my ex thought of me. [He] made me feel like I wasn’t as good or as relevant as these hipster bands he listened to.”
Apparently Taylor Swift’s ex, whichever one she is talking about, is now constantly annoyed, since the singer’s latest break-up song had the largest number of digital sales in one week of any song by a woman, according to Neilsen SoundScan. USA Today notes that Swift went on to say:
“So I made a song that I knew would absolutely drive him crazy when he heard it on the radio. Not only would it hopefully be played a lot, so that he’d have to hear it, but it’s the opposite of the kind of music that he was trying to make me feel inferior to.”
So, why would Taylor Swift want to make a break-up song specifically to annoy her ex? Because, according to her, “that’s fun.” Check out Taylor Swift’s latest single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” below.
