‘Supernatural’ Star Misha Collins Pegs Show’s Finale At Episode 666

“Just 300? Who said that?”

These were the words of Supernatural star Jared Padalecki, who plays the role Sam Winchester on the phenomenal TV series, when he was asked about the end of the series. After all, they did drop that number in September. But it looks like the tides are changing for the Supernatural team, and at this stage, they’re already looking for maybe even twice that original number–say, maybe 666?

Last September, the Inquisitr previously reported that Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, already at 241 episodes, are both comfortable ending at 300 episodes for their TV series.

In an EntertainmentWeekly interview, Padalecki said this about reaching 300 episodes for Supernatural.

“When we get to 300, I think Ackles and I will think it might be time to say bye. There’s a chance that changes, but we certainly do not take it for granted that we’re going to make it to 300.”

Supernatural executive producer Bob Singer even concurred with Padalecki and talked about a potential option.

“We talked about wanting to be able to know when our end was, and if it was to be, let’s say, 300 episodes, we could tell a 13-episode story.”

In fact, back in September, the Winchester boys did believe that in Supernatural, death is always around the corner, and it is immensely possible that they won’t even make it to 300 (although Padalecki notes how he and Ackles will be truly bummed if that happens).

But it looks like at Supernatural season 12 episode 5, the Supernatural stars and showrunners are gaining more confidence. In a Supernatural set visit today, the Winchester boys tell Den of Geek that episode 300 might not be their last episode after all.

Jensen Ackles, the actor behind Supernatural character Dean Winchester, said, “I think [300] was more of like, that’s the next milestone. We kind have our eyes set on getting there and then we’ll see- I mean, [Jared] keeps talking about another number, but I don’t want to mention it.”

Padalecki then continues to talk about how Supernatural creator Eric Kripke believed that it’s not going to be a number, and the Supernatural showrunners will just know when to do it.

Ackles agreed and said, “I think as long as there’s still story to tell… It’s kind of limitless. And I think as long as they’re still coming, as long as they’re still staying true to the show and to the characters, you know being written in a way where we’re still inspired to play them, I don’t know that there is a number necessarily.

Supernatural has become one of the longest running shows on CW and WB, and it has indeed become a huge success for the franchise and for the network. First created in 2005 by Eric Kripke, the series has now very much evolved, and after Kripke has moved on, Supernatural was left in the capable hands of Sera Gamble for seasons six and seven. Finally, Jeremy Carver took the helm for seasons eight to 11. Supernatural just premiered its season 12 on October 13 and will continue for another 22 episodes.

But since the show is already quite close to their first number, which was 300, it looks like Supernatural star Misha Collins, who plays the lovable angel Castiel, has a different target in mind. He says that maybe 666 episodes could be an interesting number for the series, to which Ackles comments, “Odd coming from an angel!”

But, in all seriousness, the Supernatural cast and showrunners are really just going along wherever the wind takes them. As they told TV Line last week, if they did start talking about a series finale, Padalecki and Ackles would really like to have Eric Kripke pen the last episode, just like the old times.

Padalecki said, “I don’t like to say, ‘When the show ends,’ because the show’s not going to end. But when the show does start to wrap down, I would love to see Eric come back and give his opinion. Because he created us in the first place, so it would be an honor.”
