Karina Smirnoff To Trade ‘Dancing With The Stars’ For Dating Show
Karina Smirnoff is sitting out the current season of Dancing With the Stars, but that doesn’t mean she is done with the reality TV game for good. Karina has signed on to the second season cast of the E! reality show, Famously Single. Smirnoff will appear on the dating-themed show alongside Bachelorette villain Chad Johnson, Kardashian bestie Malika Haqq, Jersey Shore veteran Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, British actor David McIntosh, Flavor of Love contestant Tiffany Pollard, model Calum Best, and #RichKids of Beverly Hills star Dorothy Wang, according to People.
Karina and the other seven celebs will shack up in an L.A. loft where they will participate in exercises and challenges with relationship coaches, Dr. Darcy Sterling and Robert Mack, as they try to find answers to their problems in the romance department.
Karina Smirnoff won the Season 13 mirrorball trophy on Dancing With the Stars, but she hasn’t been as successful in the romance department. In fact, Smirnoff has been engaged three times, but she has never married. Last year, TMZ reported that Karina ended her engagement to fiance Jason Adelman because he had “different family values” than her. At the time, an insider said Adelman accused her of flirting with other men, but Karina’s reps slammed the malicious story.
Smirnoff was also previously engaged to fellow DWTS champ Maksim Chmerkovskiy and to MLB pitcher Brad Penny. Karina previously told PopEater that her engagement to Maks came to a halt because they couldn’t come to an agreement on their wedding plans.
“A woman is supposed to plan the wedding, but it got to the point where it was just too much, especially with me working on Dancing With The Stars,” Karina said. “[Maks] joked that he was going to have to plan it all, tell me the wedding date and just have me show up with my hair and make-up ready.”
In an interview with People last year, Karina blamed herself for her failed relationships. While Smirnoff admitted she has had “a good life with men,” her split with Adelman took her over the edge.
“I’m in therapy now,” Smirnoff told the magazine. “I’ve gotten to the point where it’s not embarrassing. I need therapy. I need to fix myself. I need to figure out what I do to get myself in these situations because I don’t think I can have heartbreak.”
While Karina revealed that she is definitely at the point where she truly wants to be a wife and a mother, she said that sometimes the desire becomes bigger than “living in the moment.” Smirnoff also admitted that she has missed some red flags in her past relationships, so hopefully her new reality TV gig will help her find the answers that she has been looking for.
One area that Karina Smirnoff has taken complete control of is her fertility. In 2014, Smirnoff told ABC News that she decided to freeze her eggs so that she would have the option to become a mother later in life. The successful procedure left doctors with a total of 21 eggs, and Smirnoff said it made her feel “empowered” that she no longer had to worry about her biological clock.
Karina Smirnoff has been outspoken about her rocky relationship status. Smirnoff and her best friend Lindsay Reilly even teamed up to write a book on her dating mishaps, titled We’re Just Not That Into You: Dating Disasters from the Trenches.
