Clinton Foundation Scandal Update: FBI Investigation May Be Politically Motivated Hit Job By Anti-Hillary Clinton Agents, Reports Suggest
The Clinton Foundation is reportedly at the center of an FBI investigating for a “pay for play” scandal, but new reports suggest that the real controversy may be coming from within the FBI as rogue agents with an anti-Clinton bias are forming the equivalent of a last-minute political hit job against the Democratic candidate.
Sources within the FBI indicated that agents are investigating potential corruption within the non-profit organization, which runs a number of charitable functions including HIV/AIDS treatment to African countries.
Initial reports of the Clinton Foundation investigation came from Fox News host Bret Baier, who cited FBI sources claiming that the investigation had actually been going on for more than a year and that agents were searching through the laptop computers of Clinton aides Cherryl Mills and Heather Samuelson.
“The Clinton Foundation investigation is a quote, ‘very high priority.’ Agents have interviewed and re-interviewed multiple people about the Foundation case, and even before the WikiLeaks dumps, agents say they have collected a great deal of evidence,” Baier reported, via RealClearPolitics. “Pressed on that, one source said, quote, ‘a lot of it,’ and ‘there is an avalanche of new information coming every day.'”
Donald Trump has jumped on the FBI’s alleged investigation of the Clinton Foundation, saying at a rally in Florida that Hillary Clinton is likely to be indicted as a result of the investigation.
“It was reported last night that the FBI is conducting a criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton’s pay-for-play corruption,” the Trump said, via ABC News. “The investigation is described as a high priority. It’s far-reaching and has been going on for more than one year. It was reported that an avalanche of information is coming in. The FBI agents say their investigation is likely to yield an indictment.”
But new reports indicate that the Clinton Foundation investigation may be something of a hit job from FBI agents out to destroy Hillary Clinton. Separate FBI sources have told ABC News that the investigation hasn’t led to any real findings against Clinton or the non-profit organization and that it had essentially concluded without any real possibility of a recommendation of indictment.
There is more speculation from sources within the FBI that the Clinton Foundation investigation and the leaks about a possible indictment are the work of a group of investigators upset that director James Comey decided not to recommend indictment over Clinton’s email investigation.
A report from The Guardian quoted sources claiming that some FBI agents are actively trying to help Donald Trump.
“The FBI is Trumpland,” said one current agent. The currently serving FBI agent said Clinton is “the antichrist personified to a large swath of FBI personnel,” and that “the reason why they’re leaking is they’re pro-Trump.”
And Slate noted that there are some connections between the FBI and Donald Trump that might make the bureau tilt more in the Republican’s corner.
“Longtime Trump expert Wayne Barrett wrote Thursday in the Daily Beast, meanwhile, about the connections between Trump and the FBI. The FBI Agents Association — a unionlike 13,000-member group — has close ties to Rudy Giuliani, a top Trump surrogate, and Giuliani has said on Fox News that he’s in touch with current agents who are upset about Comey’s decision not to prosecute Clinton. A former agent named Jim Kallstrom has appeared on Fox several times saying the same thing; Kallstrom’s Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation has received funding from Trump and the Trump Foundation, and one of its directors is Rush Limbaugh.”
Other sources within the FBI noted that the Clinton Foundation investigation started as a result of findings from the documentary Clinton Cash, which was funded by the conservative news outlet Breitbart and claimed to uncover illegal “pay for play” scheme within the foundation. But the documentary itself has been criticized as being misleading, and critics say it is troubling that the FBI would use a political documentary as the basis for an investigation of a presidential candidate.
Whatever the case, the FBI’s investigation of the Clinton Foundation could be a major blow to Hillary Clinton in the last few days leading up to Election Day. Donald Trump has already cut into her lead, even pulling ahead in some key swing states.
