‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ Remake Cast Reveals Their First Time With The Iconic Movie

The Rocky Horror Picture Show cast has just shared their first experience with the iconic musical, according to E! Online. The cast of Fox’s Rocky Horror Picture Show remake all agreed that watching the 1975 musical comedy horror film was a memorable experience.

Nothing can compare to the first time. And the Rocky Horror Picture Show cast couldn’t agree more. The newly released Fox musical TV film rocked the entire world, but it appears that the world still can’t forget the 1975 film.

At least the Rocky Horror Picture Show cast can’t forget their first time with the original Rocky Horror Picture Show musical film. Speaking to E! Online, the cast of the new TV film remake shared their memories about watching the film for the first time, with star Laverne Cox saying that the original film really touched her heart.

“I was transfixed. I was like, What is this? This is amazing.”

Cox, who plays Dr. Frank N. Furter, the iconic character previously played by Tim Curry, revealed that she saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show for the first time when she was a freshman at Indiana University.

Cox, who a few years ago became the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy Award in the acting category, said Curry’s character “spoke” to her when she saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show for the first time.

In fact, it was a very memorable experience for the actress, as she was living in “a gender nonconforming space” back then. The Rocky Horror Picture Show actress shared that she had a shaved head back then and was just starting to wear makeup to school.

“And I saw this movie and I was like, ‘This is me!’ And the song ‘Don’t Dream It, Be It’ became a personal mantra for me.”

Victoria Justice, who plays Janet Weiss on Fox’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show, saw the original musical film when she was just 10-years-old. But she couldn’t imagine back then that she would play Susan Sarandon’s iconic character 13 years later — 41 years after the original movie was filmed.

“I don’t know if I really understood it, per se — I think still sometimes when I watch it I’m like ‘What is going on?’ In the best way possible.”

But Justice added that it wasn’t her only experience with The Rocky Horror Picture Show, as she later rewatched it when she was 15-years-old. And that experience was more “cool” because it was her first-ever midnight showing.

Rocky Horror Picture Show is an experience, and once you experience it, there’s no going back. You’ll never forget it.”

The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which carries the subtitle “Let’s Do the Time Warp Again,” premiered on October 20 on Fox. Although it’s been more than four decades after the release of the original musical film, Fox’s TV film still has the power to provoke, according to the New York Times.

In fact, Fox’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show comes at a time when people are becoming more aware that transgender people actually exist and that they are struggling in the real world to fight for their rights.

But the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show remake acknowledged that the new film’s goal is not to supersede its predecessor, but to celebrate it and give the 2016 audience the opportunity to revisit the original movie.

Just days after the release of the remake, reviews of the new Rocky Horror Picture Show are mixed at best. After the great success of Fox’s Grease and NBC’s The Wiz and The Sound of Music, remaking the iconic Rocky Horror Picture Show was always going to be a gamble.

Even among die-hard fans of Tim Carry and the original Rocky Horror Picture Show, most people agree that if anyone was going to be tasked with reimagining Tim Curry’s iconic role, it could only be Laverne Cox.
