NBC Schedule Change: ‘Law & Order: SVU,’ ‘Chicago P.D.,’ And ‘Blindspot’ Episodes Shifted Due To Game 7 Of The World Series

Television viewers who were itching to tune in to see new episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Blindspot, or Chicago P.D. on Wednesday night are facing a disappointing schedule change by NBC. All three series are being put on hold for a week due to Fox airing Game 7 of the World Series between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians on November 2. When will these three new episodes air instead?

As TVLine details, NBC has decided to pull all three new shows that it was slated to air for Blindspot, Chicago P.D., and Law & Order: SVU on Wednesday night. The network was already going up against ABC’s 2016 Country Music Association Awards broadcast, but when the World Series went to Game 7 with the battle between the Cubs and Indians set to dominate television Wednesday as well, a schedule change was made.

Now NBC will air two repeats of Law & Order: SVU that had originally aired at the beginning of this season as well as a rerun of Chicago P.D. It seems that Blindspot viewers will be entirely out of luck this week with this schedule change, but all three shows will return with new episodes on November 9, with subsequent episodes all shifted out a week from there.

CBS made a somewhat similar schedule change in light of this wild World Series extending into Game 7, pushing out their next Criminal Minds show, but keeping new episodes airing for both Survivor and Code Black. ABC is still airing the CMAs while the CW plans to air new episodes of Arrow and Frequency as was originally planned.

As TV Guide details, ratings for the World Series between the Indians and the Cubs have been huge for Fox, and seeing these two teams take the battle all the way to Game 7 will surely bring in enormous views. November sweeps have started, surely making it difficult for networks to make a call like this for core shows like Chicago P.D., Law & Order: SVU, and Blindspot. However, with these NBC shows, in particular, it is probably a smart call to make the schedule change rather than take the anticipated hit in the ratings as viewers choose this once-in-a-lifetime live baseball event over these continuing shows.

What can viewers expect from each of these NBC shows next week? Law & Order: SVU spoilers detail that the Season 18, Episode 6 offering is titled “Bad Rap.” Teasers indicate that this one will revolve around the assault of a transgender student that may be tied to a record label executive and his star performer.

Blindspot spoilers reveal that the Season 2, Episode 8 offering is titled “Do Not Slack, the Featherweight Wins.” Viewers will see Weller and Jane go missing as they work on a case undercover, and two criminals will face questioning by the team as they scramble to find their teammates. Also, there will be trouble as someone itching to get back at the team is back in the mix of things again.

As for Chicago P.D. spoilers, the Season 4, Episode 6 show is titled “Skin in the Game.” A baseball player friend of Olinsky’s is in hot water when a teenage girl is found dead at his home, and Sorensen and Burgess will be digging into the case. They’ll be facing off with a dirty cop as they tackle their next case and Lindsay will be getting some attention and flowers as this next one plays out.

There are big things on the way for each of these shows as their respective seasons continue, but fans will have to accept a short pause this week thanks to the Cubs and Indians as they battle one another in Game 7 of the World Series. Is NBC making the right call in making this schedule change for Law & Order: SVU, Blindspot, and Chicago P.D.?
