Book Wars! Zayn Malik, Perrie Edwards Address Their Split In New Memoirs

Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards can’t seem to escape each other. While it’s clear that the former lovers have since moved on, they are still being compared to each other. Both Zayn and Perrie have been compared when it comes to their breakup songs and now their respective books.

Zayn Malik is getting revealing and candid in his new book, which he has been promoting on social media. Malik has come out with his new book, simply entitled Zayn. Inside the book, Malik opens up about his struggle with anxiety and an eating disorder. He said that photos of him from 2014 made him realize “how ill” he was.

“Something I’ve never talked about in public before, but which I have come to terms with since leaving the band, is that I was suffering from an eating disorder,” he wrote. “It wasn’t as though I had any concerns about my weight or anything like that. I’d just go for days – sometimes two or three days straight – without eating anything at all. It got quite serious, although at the time I didn’t recognize it for what it was.”

The extracts from Zayn’s book were first published in The Sun, according to BBC. It’s not clear what the official diagnosis of Zayn’s eating disorder, or if he ever received treatment for the disease. Last year, Zayn left One Direction in the middle of a tour due to stress. Since then, he has released his debut album, Mind of Mine, and started dating model Gigi Hadid. Zayn said in his book that he lost all control of his life, especially when he was in the boy band.

“I think it was about control. I didn’t feel like I had control over anything in my life, but food was something I could control, so I did,” he added. “I had lost so much weight I had become ill. The workload and the pace of life on the road put together with the pressures and strains of everything going on with the band had badly affected my eating habits.”

Malik also described how his anxiety has forced him to cancel his solo gigs and appearances.

“The idea of it totally freaked me out and I was paralysed with anxiety,” he said. “The plan is to start performing smaller venues and work my way up from there. The anxiety isn’t going to get the better of me.”

Meanwhile, Perrie Edwards has opened up about her split with Malik in Little Mix’s new book, Our World, a behind-the-scenes look at their personal lives. Inside the book, Edwards admits that her split with the “Pillowtalk” singer was “the worst time of my life,” as reported via The Sun.

“A four-year relationship and two-year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that. Even though things in my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me.”

While Perrie spoke candidly about their split in Little Mix’s book, Zayn is reportedly set to tell his side of the story in his new autobiography. The 23-year-old star has reportedly promised his fans to tell them the “full story” behind their split once the book is released, as reported via the Daily Mail. In an excerpt obtained from NME, Zayn admitted that he feels free to sing about sex now that has more creative control over his lyrics since leaving One Direction.

In addition, Malik wants to shut down the rumors that he cheated on Edwards. According to Hollywood Life, Malik calls out the “crazy stories” that claimed he was unfaithful to Edwards and wants all of those stories to “disappear.”

“It was March 2015. I had been in a bad place for a while and I didn’t see myself getting out of it unless I made a change. My relationship with my fiancee, Perrie, was breaking down. To make matters worse, there were so many crazy stories flying around in the newspapers about us, and it felt like such an invasion of privacy, it made me just want to disappear for a while.”

While Zayn was on tour with One Direction in March 2015, he was spotted partying with a mystery blonde in Thailand. Then, Swedish model Martina Olsson claimed that Zayn allegedly cheated on Perrie with her while he was in Thailand.
