‘Carmageddon’ Debuts On iOS For Free
The iOS version of the classic racing game Carmageddon is now available for your twisted pleasure. For one day only (October 17), you can download and play one of the bloodiest video games known to mankind at absolutely no cost. Fans of the old school racer are sure to experience severe eyestrain for several months to come.
Joystiq reports that British studio Stainless Games is presently offering Carmageddon for absolutely nothing, which is a steal if you don’t mind the slightly dated graphics and the incredibly tasteless premise. When the title first debuted back in the 90s, it was effectively banned for sale in Britain. However, given the wanton violence on-display in games like Grant Theft Auto and Call of Duty nowadays, this bloody racer may seem relatively tame by comparison.
As someone who gleefully played the original version of the game, I’m happy to report that the iOS version of Carmageddon is almost identical to its predecessor. However, in order to accommodate those who yearn for achievements, rewards, and goodies, the game has been updated to include unlockables, leaderboards, and other enhancements. Additionally, the game reportedly features retina display and iPhone 5 support.
According to Touch Arcade, the iOS title also features a handy replay system which allows players to edit and upload their greatest crashes to YouTube with relative ease. If you smear over a dozen pedestrians across several city blocks, you can allow others to enjoy the fruits of your homicidal labors by posting the clip online.
Those who miss out on Stainless Game’s free Carmageddon offer will be forced to pony up $1.99 to download and play the title on their iOS-powered device. Android users will have to wait a little longer; presently, the game won’t be available on this platform until late 2012 or early 2013.
