WWE News: Nikki Bella Says Dating John Cena Has Made Success Harder To Achieve

There are many people who accuse WWE star Nikki Bella of using her relationship with John Cena to get over backstage. This accusation has even come up when people are cutting promos on air against the Bella Twins. AJ Lee made a comment that talent isn’t sexually transmitted, and recently, Carmella said that Nikki Bella was only where she was because she rode John Cena to the top.

However, in a recent interview with Digital Spy, Nikki Bella said that it has been the complete opposite when it comes to her career in the WWE. The interview, a promotional tool for her reality television series Total Bellas, makes it sound like dating John Cena made getting to the top harder.

“It makes my career so much harder, because no matter how hard I work I’m always going to have people take away everything I do because of John. I won’t get certain things because people will be like, ‘Oh, people are gonna think she has this because of John’ so let’s just not give it to me.”

Nikki Bella says that she will want to conduct business with someone at an event and they will instead want to talk to John Cena. She said that it makes her laugh to hear people accuse her of having it easier in the WWE because she is with John Cena.

However, there is a thought process that makes some people believe that Nikki Bella may not know how good she has it in the WWE. Nikki Bella was the longest reigning WWE Diva’s Champion of all time, holding the title for 301 days before she lost the belt to Charlotte. Since the title was retired and the WWE Women’s Championship took its place, her record will remain unbroken. She held the title twice.

Through her career in the WWE, Nikki Bella was mostly seen as eye-candy with her twin sister Brie Bella. When wrestling, she was never the better wrestler in the ring, feuding with superior wrestlers like AJ Lee, Charlotte, Paige, and more. However, she was always made to seem like a legitimate threat even when facing quality talent like Natalya.

When the Diva’s Revolution started, the idea was that the new breed of women wrestlers would push out the eye candy like the Bella Twins and the real athletes would take over. That ended up being exactly what happened, as the Inquisitr reported that Brie Bella has since retired to start a family with Daniel Bryan, and Nikki Bella was out for an extended period with an injured neck. However, Nikki Bella recently made her comeback and has continued to work as a top level WWE women’s star.

To be fair, while Brie Bella was a very poor in-ring wrestler, Nikki Bella worked hard over the last two years to improve her in-ring skills. Before her injury, while feuding with names like AJ Lee and Paige, Nikki Bella was really becoming a great heel in the ring. She also developed a nice actual wrestling move set that had more moves and less silly acrobatic flips. She improved into an above average wrestler.

Nikki Bella is now part of the SmackDown Live brand in the WWE and has put over her competition as much as she has won matches herself. It seems like she has developed herself as a veteran in the division, and while she might benefit from a heel turn, she is doing well for herself. One wonders if dating John Cena really hurt Nikki Bella, but based on her WWE success, it hasn’t hindered her career too much.
