Ron Perlman Badly Wants Another ‘Hellboy’ Movie, And Says He May Even Make One On His Own

Ron Perlman may not be perceived as a classically attractive or handsome actor, but he does exhibit an unusual quality of professionalism and uniqueness through his acting. It’s not surprising to see this classically trained actor playing roles of tough and ruthless characters; characters that are mostly anti-heroes. Ron Perlman played the role of Clay Morrow, the ruthless leader of an outlaw motorcycle club in FX’s Sons of Anarchy and he also starred in the mobster movie Drive, in 2011.

Ron Perlman is a unique actor, in as much as he makes his characters memorable by combining his acting skills with his rather unusual appearance. His cameo role as Koulikov, the Russian sniper in Enemy at the Gates is remembered as a spectacular performance, even today.

An alumnus of the University of Minnesota, Ron Perlman graduated in theater arts to pursue a career in dramatics. After working as a stage actor in several productions, he moved into the film industry by debuting in Quest for Fire. His recognition in show business came in 1987 when he played the role of Vincent, a beastly nobleman, in CBS’s Beauty and the Beast, a televised drama series adapted from the fairy tale of the same name.

The rugged features of this extremely accomplished actor not only helped him play the Beast with perfection, but they also enabled the actor to feature in Hellboy, the 2004 superhero film, in which Ron Perlman played the title role of a demon who helps fight against evil. Hellboy did extremely well at the box office and grossed $99 million internationally.

Later, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, a sequel to the 2004 movie, was produced and released in 2008. Even though the sequel earned a whopping $160 million at the box office, Hellboy fans have yet to hear any news about the production of Hellboy III. Of course, no-one would love to see the making of Hellboy III more than Ron Perlman himself, because it’s his wish that the Hellboy movie franchise becomes a trilogy.

For reasons unknown, Hellboy III has been placed on the backburner and, except for Ron Perlman, none of the celebrities associated with the Hellboy franchise have urged director Guillermo del Toro to take the initiative in making Hellboy III.

Convincing del Toro seems to be the primary challenge in getting this film project off the ground because it seems the accomplished director is busy with other projects. Previously, Doug Jones and Selma Blair, who also featured in the Hellboy movies, expressed their willingness to convince studios to finance the production of Hellboy III. However, Hellboy III hasn’t been planned yet, and it appears that time is running out for actors like 66-year-old Ron Perlman who may not be capable of playing Hellboy as energetically as he did in the 2004 movie.

Lazy Gamer reports that the time is certainly ripe for producing a Hellboy sequel due to the growing popularity of superhero films among audiences worldwide.

Ron Perlman is not going to wait for his co-stars to campaign for the production of Hellboy III, and the veteran actor has already embarked on a mission to fulfill his dream of completing a Hellboy trilogy. He’s been very diligent in using online discussions on social media to garner support from Hellboy fans to keep the topic alive. Although the actor has admitted that he’s not too keen on wearing the Hellboy makeup, he feels that Hellboy’s story would forever remain incomplete if the much-needed sequel is not produced. MovieWeb reports that Ron Perlman’s recent social media post has piqued the curiosity of fans as it clearly expresses the actor’s optimism about the completion of a Hellboy trilogy.

“I’m working on another Hellboy movie. Nobody else is. But I sure am!”
