‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Camilla Luddington Claims Alex And Jo Are ‘Dunzo’
Jo Wilson couldn’t find herself in a worse position in Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy.
Not only is Jo (Camilla Luddington) keeping a huge secret buried in the past, but she’s also dealing with the fallout of Alex’s (Justin Chambers) brutal beating of DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti).
With their relationship on the rocks, will Alex and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) finally become an item?
Fans will undoubtedly have to wait to find out what happens between Alex and Meredith.
In the meantime, Luddington recently sat down with Cosmopolitan and discussed her character’s future with Alex.
For starters, Luddington revealed that she didn’t know about Jo’s past until last season.
The Season 9 finale first mentioned Jo’s problematic past, but Luddington and Rhimes didn’t sit down to talk about the specifics until Season 12.
In fact, the actress didn’t know that Jo was married to an abusive husband whom she never officially divorced until sitting down for the table read.
“People think that we know a lot of stuff ahead of time, but [the writers] enjoy us finding out at the table read. So there was like actual shock and Justin was sat across from me, and he just shook his head in, like, complete disapproval! I was like, “I’m so sorry! I didn’t know!” she explained.
Jo had good reasons for not telling Alex about her husband.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Luddington revealed that Jo’s abusive husband would put everyone she loves in danger if he ever tracked her down, which is one reason she decided not to tell Alex about him.
“Something that was so interesting to me that they said was that this person is so dangerous that she has believed that he would not only come after her if he found out her identity, but he would also come after Alex,” the actress explained.
The manner in which Alex might to such news is another reason why Jo didn’t want to tell him.
“She thought in keeping it secret from Alex — because perhaps she thought he would have a knee-jerk reaction to the news and do something that would put them both in danger,” she added. “The issue is seeing how he reacted in a knee-jerk way toward Andrew. I don’t think it helps for the future for her to tell him anytime soon because she is worried that he would do something irresponsible that would put them both in danger.”
To complicate their relationship even further, Alex ruthlessly beat up DeLuca at the end of last season because he thought he was trying to make a move on Jo.
Given Jo’s secrets and Alex’s violent actions, Movie News Guide is reporting that Luddington believes their relationship is all but over.
“Right now, it seems as though Alex and her are dunzo,” Luddington stated during an interview on the radio show, Obsessed.
If Alex and Jo are finished, then what are the chances that Meredith and Alex’s friendship evolves into something more romantic this season on Grey’s Anatomy?
Apparently, Luddington doesn’t think it is such a farfetched idea and loves the idea of Alex and Meredith hooking up this season.
“I don’t think that’s a crazy idea because a lot of relationships end up blossoming from friendships. I’ve been with my boyfriend for many, many years. We started out as best friends, before anything ever happened with us. So I understand how sometimes it can take a long time for those feelings to develop, and then suddenly you realize that that person has been standing there all along,” she admitted.
According to Refinery 29, Luddington believes Meredith’s loyalty to Alex is one thing that could open the door for a future romance.
“Even for me, watching the episodes, there’s a loyalty between them that’s undeniable,” she said. “I understand the appeal of thinking about what they’d be like together, and being interested to see what that chemistry is. As someone who plays a character on the show who’s in a relationship with Alex, yes, I would like for them to work it out. As a fan of the show, I think that could be interesting at some point, to see what they could be like together.”
Of course, not all fans are Merlex shippers.
In fact, some would like to see the show keep Meredith and Alex friends and avoid making a relationship out of everything.
Whatever happens between the two, it is undeniable that Meredith and Alex are devoted to the well-being of each other.
Whether or not Shonda Rhimes turns this into another epic romance for Meredith is yet to be seen.
After all, Meredith is coming off the death of her husband and a new romance with Riggs, so there’s no telling what Rhimes has in store for her next.
Fans can watch the drama continue to unfold when new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy air Thursday nights on ABC.
