‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’ Sneak Peek Trailer Released: Here’s Five Things You Probably Missed

Marvel shocked the internet on Wednesday by releasing our first look at the sequel to 2014’s surprise smash-hit Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. By now, you’ve almost certainly seen it, but if you haven’t, check the new Guardians sneak peek below.

All set? Okay. The new Guardians trailer doesn’t give away too much, but if you’ve got a keen eye, a fast-twitching pause finger, and the willingness to watch it ten times in a row in five-second chunks, you’ll be able to pick out a number of little tidbits that might have slipped past your in your glee at watching it the first time. Fortunately for you, we’ve already gone to the trouble of doing that, so you don’t have to. So here are five things you probably missed from the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 teaser trailer.

Rocket Making Himself at Home on the Milano

That first shot of a hallway in the Milano, Star-Lord’s ship which has become the Guardians’ base of operations, has a little something in common with that shot of the spacesuits that follows. Both show a bit of graffiti on the walls, which likely isn’t something that was there in the first version of the Milano. What’s the deal? That’s probably the Guardians’ misfit-among-misfits, Rocket, taking liberties with the aesthetic of the ship. Look at the scratchy lettering and the snark: Star-Lord would likely have more respect for the recreation of the ship he’s called home for a long time. Or maybe not.

Yondu Joins Up with the Guardians

In what’s bound to be one of the better shot scenes of the whole of Guardians Vol. 2, we see Rocket strolling calmly along a walkway while dozens of bodies fall all around him. At his side, Star-Lord’s blue-skinned adoptive father, Yondu. From the looks of it, Yondu isn’t too mad about getting cheated out of an Infinity Stone, as the Guardians did to him at the end of the first Guardians flick. He looks to have even joined up with the Guardians, or at least made common cause with them in pursuance of a bigger goal.

Rocket’s Back Up to His Old Tricks

Speaking of which, doesn’t that shot of all those bodies falling look almost like the reverse of zero-G prison break from the first Guardians of the Galaxy? The “raining men” shot from Guardians Vol. 2 looks like it’s going to be the payoff to another physics-defying plot from the devious, tech-happy Rocket. The only question is how high the body count is going to be.

The Wrecked Milano

While Rocket and the rest of the Guardians appear to be making themselves at home in the recreated Milano, it looks like they won’t have too much time in Guardians Vol. 2 to enjoy their digs. That’s almost certainly a totaled Milano that Star-Lord, Draxx, and Gamora are walking away from later in the trailer. How do we know? Check out how laden down with baggage Draxx is. Plus, check out how Star-Lord has his Walkman – shown as a dear possession to him in the original Guardians of the Galaxy – secure at his hip leaving the wreckage. The crew is obviously leaving a wrecked Milano and taking with them anything of value.

Baby Groot, the Prison Breaker?

If you look at that last shot in the Guardians Vol. 2 sneak peek, the one that’s going to be burned into everyone’s memory due to our first new peek at Baby Groot, you’ll notice a couple of things… if you can tear your eyes away from the adorableness, that is.

First, it looks like Rocket is wearing the same gear and carrying one of the same guns we saw him with in the earlier “raining men” shot with Yondu – the one with the falling bodies and the uncertain body count. It looks like this might be from the same sequence.

Second, look through the bullet hole, past the smirking Rocket and adorable Groot – voiced again by Vin Diesel – and you’ll see a number of monitors in the background; monitors filled with running people. Is this another prison break? Hard to tell, but it wouldn’t be too surprising for Guardians Vol. 2 to take a number of things from the first Guardians of the Galaxy and turn them on their heads.

Two Things We Don’t Know

Now, with those tidbits from the Guardians Vol. 2 trailer out of the way, what about the things we can’t guess at? There are two things that really stuck out in terms of mystery. The first is the desperate Nebula. A little bit into the new Guardians trailer, we see Nebula, Gamora’s “sister” who played a minor villain role in the first Guardians, having a ragged cloak ripped away from her head. She appears to be on her knees, so it may be safe to assume that she’s been on the run since the end of the first Guardians.

On the run from whom? From Thanos, the big bad who will tie the Marvel Universe threads together in Avengers: Infinity War. Has Nebula been captured by her “father” in Guardians Vol. 2? Hard to say, but previous reports on the movie have said that it would deal with “fathers,” so a Thanos appearance would be in keeping with the theme.

And the second thing? What are the new tunes that will tie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 together? At the end of the first Guardians, audiences saw Star-Lord discover an Awesome Mix Vol. 2 mixtape from his late mother, but the teaser for Guardians Vol. 2 still relies on Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling.” That’s understandable since it’s the most identifiable song from the first Guardians flick, but we’re itching to hear what new tracks are going to drive Guardians Vol. 2.
