Priyanka Chopra is breaking Bollywood stereotypes the Priyanka Chopra way. Priyanka dishes on Hindi movies, Hindi songs, and her breakout role as Alex Parrish in the ABC primetime drama, Quantico. In her native India, the former pageant queen is starring in Bajirao Mastani, and in-post production for the action flick Jai Gangaajal, a sequel to 2003’s Gangaajal. At the 2016 Emmy Awards, Tom Hiddleston, also known as Taylor Swift’s ex, hit it off with the Bollywood “desi girl” recognized by India as the “Most Desirable Woman” of the year.
Chopra discussed the intricacies of success with Complex magazine.
“People think that once you achieve success it’s great and you party, but it’s not. You’re known by your last failure. So you have to move from that to your next success. Success is a journey, you have to be consistently successful to be called successful.”
The Quantico actress admitted she cannot cook or shop. Santi has been her cook for many generations. Priyanka, 34, says they cannot live without one another. Chopra says she’s built a world around herself based on comfort and familiarity so she’s not too homesick.

“I don’t like to cook and I don’t like housework… If I have to do it I can, I can make eggs… but, I am amazing at ordering food, so you’ll never go hungry.”

Priyanka Chopra Breaks Bollywood Stereotypes In Quantico
Quantico, the part cop drama and part mystery series, is rising in popularity with its insurmountable twists and turns. Bollywood’s “desi girl,” Priyanka plays the lead role of Alex Parrish. Priyanka tells Complex magazine she chose Quantico from 26 other scripts.
“I wanted to be seen as just an actor, not because of my ethnicity or where I come from. I think global entertainment needs to become like that. It needs to be about the best person for the job rather than what you look like or where you come from. And I wanted to be one of the first people to take a step in that direction.”
The Lebanese-born American actress said it was difficult to break through stereotypes.
“[Some] see me as a stereotype of what Bollywood is supposed to be… everything their emotions are heightened, but that’s not true we can do anything… that struggle was very hard, I had to really break down concrete to not be that stereotype. Especially because I picked a part of an FBI agent which has nothing to do with my ethnicity or Indie movies.”
“I don’t wanna do my big fat Punjabi wedding or any other stereotype.”
Chopra maintains she was able to cross over because she stood her ground and never settled. Chopra said all the experience she has had in the past has made her a better actress.
According to Priyanka, the language of filmmaking is the same; however, television is much different. Priyanka shoots 12-15 hour days for her ABC television series but maintains similar commitments, schedules, and appearances as India.
“Television is so hard, the speed is insane.”
Priyanka’s upcoming Hollywood movie Baywatch portrays the Bollywood beauty as a lifeguard and real estate developer determined to destroy the bay. Priyanka filmed for Baywatch during the same time as Quantico. Priyanka poses with co-star Johanna Braddy, who plays Shelby Wyatt on Quantico, created by Joshua Safran.

Priyanka Chopra is among the world’s 10 highest paid television actresses, with Quantico and endorsements netting her $11 million in earnings, according to Forbes. Priyanka also received a “Miss World” title in 2000 and has starred in more than 50 Bollywood films.
Priyanka tells Anupama in regard to “Indi” films, she misses the language, the dancing, and the music. Priyanka says she doesn’t get to dance to Hindi songs in American films; however, she is able to speak Hindi in Quantico.

“I walked out with this big train, and I did it for the first time, because I was like, ‘Oh, it’s so pretty, and I feel princess-y… And after I twirled once, I was twirling all night.”

Priyanka says a ton of discipline is needed for her hit ABC series, Quantico.
“I have to stay super active and agile because I do my own stunts. I do all my fights myself. I trust my body and my instincts.”
“People always say you should listen to your body… But I don’t listen to my body. My body listens to me. I can’t afford to be sick or low on energy. It’s mind over matter: I’m going to have a good day, and not in that fake ‘Happy girls are the best girls!’ way.”
Priyanka “Traveller” Shirt On Magazine Cover Ruffles Feathers
Priyanka modeled for the cover of luxury travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveller. Though she’s making India proud, Chopra managed to ruffle a few feathers on Twitter. The Bollywood star wore a white t-shirt with four words in the following order: refugee, immigrant, outsider, and traveller. The words “Refugee,” “Immigrant,” and “Outsider” had a strike through it, leaving many to believe it suggested Priyanka is a “traveler.” Some on Twitter felt the magazine cover and t-shirt was a politically inappropriate and carried an insensitive message.

The message Priyanka sported on her t-shirt is being misunderstood according to designer Archana Kochhar.
“I think we’re all travelers in life. No life is permanent to one place or one house. So, conceptually, she’s not wrong. Furthermore, Priyanka wouldn’t intentionally be insensitive to the plight of any group. I don’t think it was intended to be a move, or she wasn’t trying to make a point.”

Designer Pria Kataria Puri adds the word “traveller” was meant to be seen from a voyage point of view.
“Since it’s a travel magazine, I want to believe that the word ‘traveller’ was innocently put there from a voyage point of view. I don’t think it was meant to offend but it may have come across that way. I don’t think Priyanka or the magazine made her wear the t-shirt to offend anybody.”
Priyanka Chopra has not commented on the matter. Priyanka has a lot on her plate at the moment, but the Bollywood star is at the peak of her career and an inspiration to Indian actresses looking to go from Bollywood to Hollywood.
