Actress Stacey Dash has recently come under fire for her Twitter support of presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, an endorsement which brought out the ugliness of the social media site. Instead of allowing the Clueless co-star to speak her mind freely about her candidate of choice, users quickly buried Dash under a pile of hateful comments and racist remarks. In order to properly address the ensuing controversy, Stacey paid a visit to Piers Morgan Tonight .
According to Yahoo! News , Stacey Dash took her case to Piers Morgan, where she discussed her shock over the internet backlash.
“The fury, I really don’t understand the fury,” she explained during her interview on Tuesday night. “I don’t understand it. I don’t get it … I was shocked, saddened. Not angry. Saddened and really shocked. But you know what, you can’t expect everyone to agree with you.”
The actress went on to explain that, while she voted for President Barack Obama in 2008, she’s ready for the next four years to be a little different. In order for that to happen, Dash believes she needs to cast her vote for Republican Mitt Romney.
“I believe him … I watched him, the Governor and his wife, on ‘Meet The Press.’ … They spoke to me, they seemed authentic and genuine,” she added.
Mediaite reports that Romney’s running mate Paul Ryan reached out to Stacey Dash after the internet backlash turned exceptionally ugly. Ryan explained that Dash was brave for speaking her mind and endorsing the presidential candidate, and stated that he and Romney support her, as well.
Dash, meanwhile, explained that it wasn’t fair to “demonize” an individual for chasing down the American dream. “Do your homework, look at your country,” she said. “I believe him. And I believe he deserves a shot.”
