Roman Polanski Victim Samantha Geimer To Release A Memoir
Although famed director Roman Polanski has finished out his sentence for victimizing 13 year-old 70s model Samantha Geimer, the now 47 year-old plans to release a memoir titled The Girl: Emerging from the Shadow of Roman Polanski. The book, which will be released by Atria, a Simon & Schuster imprint is said to be released next fall.
According to the press release by Atria, Geimer, who was sexually assaulted by Roman Polanski will detail, “insight into many dimensions of the story that have never previously been revealed.”
In her own words Samantha Geimer said through the imprint:
“I am more than ‘Sex Victim Girl,’ a tag the media pinned on me. “My friends in junior high, scolded by their parents to stay away from that girl, also labeled me. I offer my story now without rage, but with purpose — to share a tale that in its detail will reclaim my identity. I have been dogged by tired thinking and easy tags nearly my entire life. I am not a stick figure. I know what it is like to be a woman and a victim in the realest possible way.”
Although the cost of the selling of the memoir hasn’t been disclosed, Geimer’s attorney, Lawrence Silver, has said that the book has “insights on the many fascinating and even shocking legal aspects of the story.” In 1977 a media firestorm of attention surrounded Polanski when the director was arrested for sexually assaulting Geimer at a photo shoot for Vogue magazine.
In an on-going legal battle Polanski plea bargained to the change of “unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor,” and was sentenced to 90 days of psychiatric evaluation at a prison. After 42 days in prison Polanski was released and finished his final sentencing on probation. With the threatening of deportation Polanski fled to France in 1978. In 2009 Polanski was arrested in Switzerland which renewed the media hoopla surrounding the case, and brought out multiple celebrity supporters for Polanski’s release. Two months later he was released and put under house arrest.
Roman Polanski has been famous for his work as well, including The Pianist, Oliver Twist, The Ghost Writer and Carnage.
