‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Creator Kurt Sutter Teases Spin-Off, Releases First Photos Of ‘Mayans MC’
Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy spin-off is finally ramping up.
Sutter just teased fans with a first look at Mayans MC on social media. Does this mean the series will premiere a lot sooner than expected?
According to Bleeding Cool, Sutter posted a picture of the Mayans Motorcycle club on Twitter with the caption “Are you ready for this? #MayansMC.”
Sons of Anarchy wrapped up its seventh and final season back in December of 2014, and fans have patiently waited for Sutter to revisit the biker world.
After years of waiting, it finally looks like Sutter will return to the biker world he created.
International Business Times is reporting that Mayans MC is still in pre-production and that Sutter has been working on the project for months.
The Bastard Executioner creator has been sharing photos from the new show for quite some time now. Most of the images feature the leader of the Mayans MC, Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera).
Marcus’ prominence suggests that he will play an important role in the coming spin-off. After all, he is the leader of the Mayans MC and never faltered throughout Sons of Anarchy’s entire run.
A few weeks ago, Sutter posted a photo of Rivera and wrote “Working hard on some sweet surprises. #MayansMC.”
The plot of the new series remains a mystery, though FX explained that it would center on biker culture with a Latino perspective.
“[Mayans MC] will be a dark, visceral family drama that takes a new look at the most American of icons, the 1 percent outlaw, this time, reflected through a Latino lens,” the network explained.
Fans of Sons of Anarchy are well acquainted with the Mayans, who were SAMCRO’s biggest rivals early on in the show.
On Sons of Anarchy, the Mayans were based out of California and displayed the same admiration for violence as Jax Teller’s (Charlie Hunnam) biker club.
Considering Sutter’s use of violence on Sons of Anarchy, it will be interesting to see how far he takes it on Mayans MC.
If anything, Mayans MC will be even more violent and tragic than Sons of Anarchy.
Meanwhile, it still isn’t known if Hunnam will reprise his role as Jax Teller on the new series.
According to Vine Report, Sutter recently shared a photo of Alvarez and Jax on Instagram.
Was Sutter hinting that Hunnam will be back?
“My favorite kind of family. Dysfunctional. #MayansMC #SOA,” Sutter wrote alongside the image.
By the end of Sons of Anarchy, Jax had worked out a temporary truce with Alvarez, so it would make sense if Hunnam reprises his role one last time.
That being said, Jax ended his own life at the end of Season 7, which makes it kind of difficult for him to come back.
As fans will recall, Jax rode headfirst into a semi-truck in the series finale. (See the clip below.)
Jax’s part in the new series all depends on the time frame. If the spin-off starts before the events in Sons of Anarchy, then it’s entirely possible that Jax will make a cameo.
Unfortunately, neither Hunnam nor Sutter have revealed their plans for the upcoming series.
Apart from Hunnam, fans can expect some characters from Sons of Anarchy to make cameos in Mayans MC.
FX has not announced a season premiere date for Mayans MC, but the network has purchased a script for the series opener.
Elgin James is acting as the co-creator of the series with Sutter and will help him develop the story.
Given Sutter’s recent tease, it shouldn’t be long before more information about Mayans MC is revealed.
