Dolph Lundgren’s TV Series ‘Rescue 3’ Scheduled To Premiere Next Fall
Action hero Dolph Lundgren is set to premiere his new TV series next fall, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Expendables co-star will tackle the role of Captain John Matthews in the syndicated program Rescue 3, a show which follows the weekly adventures of an elite Southern California task force devoted to saving lives.
Co-produced by Emmett/Furla Films and Envision Entertainment, Dolph Lundgren’s Rescue 3 will reportedly enjoy two 20-episode seasons premiering next fall. The show will focus on the exploits of three agencies — lifeguards, firefighters, and the coast guard — that ultimately join forces in order to save folks from the brink of certain doom. Lundgren will lead an elite team of rescuers who come equipped with their own unique talents. If you think the show sounds oddly reminiscent of Baywatch, then you’re not alone.
“Dolph Lundgren brings an impressive body of film work into this, his first television series, which capitalizes on his enormous popularity worldwide. I am excited and honored to be working alongside Dolph and can’t think of a better person to lead our team both on- and off-camera,” Emmett/Furla co-founder Gregory J. Bonann explained to THR.
According to Deadline, Rescue 3 will follow in the footsteps of such syndicated adventures as Hercules, Xena, and, of course, Baywatch. In fact, the Dolph Lundgren series will mark the return of the once-popular scripted syndicated action program.
Sean Compton, president of programming and entertainment at Tribune, is understandably excited about what Rescue 3 has to offer. “We are very happy that first-run scripted programming is back in syndication. ‘Rescue 3’ will definitely be a success for our stations.”
Dolph Lundgren has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence in popularity since the success of Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables and its sequel. Not only has the actor churned out a number of better-than-average direct-to-video action flicks, he’s also teaming up with fellow action hero Jean-Claude Van Damme for Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning.
