WWE Rumors: WWE Champion Injured And Out Of ‘No Mercy’ Title Defense

Published on: October 9, 2016 at 1:08 AM

It seems winning a title in the WWE is cursed for many wrestlers. Daniel Bryan finally reached the top of the world only to have it crash down around him when he fell to injury one month into his world title reign. Finn Balor won the Universal Championship only to suffer an injury during the match he won the title in. Sasha Banks won the Women’s Championship only to lose it less than a month later at SummerSlam thanks to a back injury.

According to The Wrestling Observer , the injury bug has struck another wrestler who finally reached the top of the game. WWE SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Becky Lynch had fought for a year for a championship and finally won one when she became the first ever SmackDown Live women’s champion. However, Becky Lynch has apparently suffered a neck injury and will miss a month, missing her title defense at WWE No Mercy this weekend.

If Becky Lynch is forced to surrender her title at WWE No Mercy due to the injury, she will be the second superstar to have to surrender their title since the WWE brand split and the third to lose their title due to injury since then as well. Becky Lynch is scheduled to defend her championship against Alexa Bliss at WWE No Mercy .

According to Squared Circle Sirens , Becky Lynch suffered the neck injury a few weeks ago and has been wrestling with the injury since that time. Becky Lynch teamed up with Nikki Bella to wrestle Alexa Bliss and Carmella on SmackDown Live this past Tuesday night. Nikki Bella is scheduled to wrestle Carmella at WWE No Mercy in a second women’s match on the card.

Becky Lynch came up to the WWE main roster from NXT along with Charlotte and Sasha Banks. The women were three of the four members of the Four Horsewomen of NXT, along with Bayley, who finally made her main roster debut in the last month.

Over their first year on the main roster, it was Charlotte who took over the women’s division from Nikki Bella and reinvented the brand as superstars instead of Divas. After getting the Bellas out of the division, Charlotte, Sasha Banks, and Becky Lynch feuded for the women’s title for the next year.

However, Charlotte held onto it until July when she finally lost it to Sasha Banks. Becky Lynch had plenty of chances, but was always the third wheel in that feud. However, with the WWE brand split, Becky Lynch was separated from those two women and finally stood out on her own, winning the SmackDown Live women’s title and finally reaching the top, with her first major title defense coming at WWE No Mercy this weekend.

RELATED WWE REPORTS BY THE INQUISITR

There is always the chance that the WWE does not make Becky Lynch surrender the title at No Mercy . The company has often overlooked the 30-day title defense rule in the past, so there is a chance that they give Becky Lynch the break here. However, if they do force the title swap at No Mercy , Alexa Bliss could possibly get put into the match with Nikki Bella and Carmella, with the winner taking home the belt.

WWE No Mercy takes place on Sunday night, Oct. 9, on the WWE Network. Outside of the Becky Lynch women’s title defense, other title matches on No Mercy include AJ Styles defending the world title against Dean Ambrose, and John Cena and the team of Rhyno and Heath Slater defending the tag titles against The Usos.
