Which banks are open on Columbus Day 2016?

Believe it or not, some banks are open on Monday. If you are a TD Bank customer, Columbus Day is one of four holidays that all 1,300-plus locations of this East Coast bank will be open.

According to Saving Advice, a long list of other banks will be closed (call ahead to be sure), but Chase Bank and Wells Fargo Bank will be open on Monday, and SunTrust will open their in-store branches on the federal holiday.

Is the Post Office open Monday? What about deliveries from UPS and FedEx?

According to the U.S. Postal Service, all post office branches will be closed on Columbus Day, so you won’t be able to check your post office box, drop off a package. Letter carriers won’t be out on the road on Monday — except for the possibility of Amazon deliveries — so you will have to wait until Tuesday to get your mail at your home or business. If you need to buy stamps, most grocery stores, and many convenience stores will be open on Monday — they may sell books of stamps at the register.

There is some good news if you are waiting for a package from the United Parcel Service (UPS) or Federal Express (FedEx). Both delivery companies will be open for business on Columbus Day — packages will be delivered according to their regular schedule and most of their branch offices will be open if you need to ship a package.

Which stores are open on Monday? What about restaurants?

Columbus Day weekend is a typically a great time to get a great deal on clothing, housewares, and more. Whether you want to get a head start on your holiday shopping or just need to stock up on fall clothing, sales will be running at big retailers across the country.

That means most malls and stores will be open so you can shop ’til you drop. According to the Holiday Shopping Hours, there aren’t many stores that will be closed on October 10. Expect to find Walmart, Target, Sears, Home Depot, Express, Lowe’s, Nordstrom, Old Navy, Victoria’s Secret, and other popular retailers open either regular or holiday hours on Monday.

According to US News, Macy’s tops the list of best places to get a deal during the holiday weekend, offering an extra 20 percent off storewide and an extra 25 percent off clearance items. Also on the list are Home Depot, Sears, Toys R Us and Barnes & Noble.

Hungry after all that shopping? Most restaurants, including fast food and casual sit-down eateries are typically open on Columbus Day. Call for hours at your local Olive Garden, Golden Corral, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, and other chain restaurants.
