Man Dies After Roach Eating Contest

What would you do for a free snake? Edward Archbold, a 32-year-old man from West Palm Beach, entered a live roach eating contest at a Florida pet store in order to win a free python.

Archbold reportedly ate dozens of roaches, worms, and other insects during the contest on Friday night. Not surprisingly, Archbold began to feel sick after ingesting the insects and started to vomit inside the store. Archbold later collapsed and was taken to Broward Health North where he was pronounced dead.

Police are waiting on the results of an autopsy before they announce the exact cause of death.

Most people would suggest that Archbold died from eating dozens of roaches, but WPTV notes that none of the other contestants got sick during the event.

The Ben Siegel’s Reptile Store wrote on Facebook:

“All we know is that sadly he has passed on. Please respect the privacy of the family as they try to determine what happened. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Eddie’s family in this terrible time. Although we just met Eddie the night of the sale, we all liked him right away. All of us here at Ben Siegel Reptiles are sad that we will not get to know Eddie better, for in the short time we knew him, he was very well liked by all.”

The Huffington Post reports that the ball python was given to Archbold’s family.
