Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are getting back together — in the music studio.
The former husband and wife are joining forces to produce Lopez’s 2017 album , with Anthony serving as executive producer of the upcoming opus, Billboard reported on Thursday. The album will be in Spanish, according to the report, marking the first time since 2007 that Lopez will have released an album in her second language.
After news that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony would be getting back together musically, both recording artists issued statements on the matter.
“I am so excited and really looking forward to this new musical journey and to celebrate my Latin roots with Marc Anthony and the Sony/Magnus family,” said Lopez, who stars as New York Police Department detective Harlee Santos on the NBC crime drama Shades of Blue .
“[Jennifer] has had enormous accomplishments in her career and has been representing our culture all over the world from day one,” said Marc Anthony, a two-time Grammy and five-time Latin Grammy award winner. “Her artistry, professionalism and passion for music are just some of the many attributes that have earned her a unique place in the entertainment world that very few people have been able to obtain. I am looking forward to our creative collaboration and to be part of continuing her musical legacy.”
Lopez shared the news via social media, tweeting to her fans that she’s working on “Musica Nueva!” — Spanish for “new music” — with an image of herself and Anthony performing a duet.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, who have a son and a daughter together, aren’t treading unprecedented waters by working with one another on this album. As Billboard points out, Anthony co-produced what was Lopez’s first and only all-Spanish album to date, Como Ama una Mujer (How a woman loves). The 2007 album included the singles “Que Hiciste” and “Me Haces Falta,” the videos to which have over 40 million views on the JenniferLopezVEVO YouTube channel combined.
Friends long before they had ever dated, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez got married in June of 2004. The marriage produced Emme and Max, twins born on February 22, 2008.
The New York-born former entertainment power couple separated seven years after saying their vows, finalizing their divorce in June of 2014, 10 years to the month after tying the knot.
Anthony, 48, has since married Venezuelan model Shanon de Lima, his wife of nearly two years. Lopez, 47, was in a five-year, on-and-off relationship with backup dancer Casper Smart until he and the ex- American Idol judge parted ways in August.
Anthony was previously married to 1993 Miss Universe winner Dayanara Torres, with whom he has two sons. Lopez, before walking down the aisle with the “I Need to Know” singer, was briefly married to a waiter named Ojani Noa (1997-98) and backup dancer Chris Judd (2001-02).
Despite featuring a litany of popular music artists, Lopez’s most recent album, A.K.A. (2014), received mixed reviews and lacked the commercial success of her past releases. More recently, Lopez collaborated with Hamilton actor and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda on “Love Make the World Go Round,” a charity single that is dedicated to the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting earlier this year.
Lopez and the Hamilton star, dressed in white, performed the song at a crowded Rockefeller Plaza on July 11 on NBC’s Today .
Her upcoming album will be a venture between Anthony’s entertainment company, Magnus Media, and Sony Music Latin.
