‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Movie Gets A Screenwriter

Universal Pictures and Focus Features are still looking for an actor to star in the Fifty Shades Of Grey movie, but they have found a screenwriter. Kelly Marcel, the screenwriter behind the recently cancelled Terra Nova, will write the screenplay for the new movie.

Producer Michael De Luca said:

“Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humor and depth of character which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks. “

Producer Dana Brunetti added:

“We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelley’s [sic] engagement with the characters and world E L James has created and we knew she was the right person to augment our Fifty Shades family.”

Now that a screenwriter has been secured, Universal Pictures and Focus Features will start looking for a director. Big names like Angelina Jolie have reportedly been attached to direct the movie (those rumors were false), but Universal will probably end up with second rate talent behind the camera.

The movie, based off of the incredibly popular erotic novel series, has been the subject of incredible hype over the last several months. Ryan Gosling, Emma Watson, and recently crowned sexiest woman alive Mila Kunis have all been rumored for major roles in the new movie, but so far no one has stepped forward to sign a contract.

Do you think the Fifty Shades of Grey movie will be a hit? Will it have an A-list cast?

The novel is extremely popular and extremely cheesy at the same time. It’s unclear if anyone is actually going to take a film adaptation seriously. With Kelly Marcel attached to write the screenplay and not someone like Bret Easton Ellis who was rumored for the job, it looks like the movie is destined for mediocrity.

What do you think? Will Fifty Shades of Grey be a modern classic?
