WWE Rumors: Vince McMahon Not Really Interested In Goldberg Return
Not everyone in the world is enthusiastic about Goldberg potentially making a return to WWE. Vince McMahon is said to be indifferent about the situation, as reported by 411 Mania. McMahon is not opposed to Goldberg facing Brock Lesnar at the Survivor Series, but he is not exactly making a big push for it, either.
From the moment that he left WWE approximately 12 years ago, there has been speculation about the possible return of Goldberg. Rumors have sprung up over the years, especially around the time where World Wrestling Entertainment hosts WrestleMania, their biggest pay-per-view event of the year.
For years, though, Goldberg rejected the idea. The time that he spent with WWE was definitely not his favorite period in the industry. In fact, things were so bad that he vowed to never be involved with the company ever again. The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion wanted to distance himself as much as possible.
Goldberg and Vince McMahon did not form much of a bond when the two of them were doing business together back in 2003 and 2004. In various interviews, Goldberg has been a little critical of how things are backstage in WWE, citing a lot of backstage politics getting in the way.
Goldberg’s departure from WWE was quite a memorable one, though not for good reasons. He worked a big match against Brock Lesnar, another performer who had grown disgruntled with the company. With both of them on the way out the door, their match at WrestleMania XX was quite the flop.
Though he claims to ignore things that are said through social media or reported on wrestling websites, Vince McMahon was fully aware of the things that were said about him by Goldberg. That obviously did not help their relationship. McMahon never pursued a reunion, despite WWE reconnecting with various other wrestlers.
A lot of time has passed since Goldberg last worked with WWE. Vince McMahon can hold a grudge, but he also has a reputation for putting things aside for the sake of the business. McMahon mended fences with Bruno Sammartino and the Ultimate Warrior over the past couple of years.
There are talks that Vince McMahon simply does not understand the Goldberg character and what makes it work. WCW was where the character was introduced, and Goldberg skyrocketed into stardom. In fact, he was one of the reasons why World Championship Wrestling was able to compete with WWE.
The story seems believable because when Sting managed to be a big draw when he finally decided to join WWE, Vince McMahon was said to have been legitimately surprised by the results. It was Triple H that was pushing really hard for Sting to finally get his WrestleMania moment.
If Goldberg does decide to work the match against Brock Lesnar at the Survivor Series, then Vince McMahon is not going to stand in the way of that. McMahon knows that it would really help boost sales of the upcoming WWE2K17 video game, which now features Goldberg as a playable character.
A match between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg would also give Vince McMahon a main event at the Survivor Series. The company does not have as many big name performers as they did in the past, so it has become harder to produce intriguing matches in the top spot of the pay-per-view.
So, while Vince McMahon may not be overly excited about bringing Goldberg back, he does know what is best for business, so the possibility of seeing Goldberg in a WWE ring again cannot be ruled out just yet.
