‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Ellen Pompeo Reveals Just How Far Meredith Will Go To Save Alex [Sneak Peek]
Meredith is doing everything she can to save Alex.
Following Alex’s (Justin Chambers) violent beating of DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) in the Season 12 finale of Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is trying her best to make sure Alex doesn’t see any jail time.
How far is Meredith willing to go to ensure Alex stays out of trouble with the law?
Wet Paint is reporting that Meredith will do everything in her power to help Alex, as long as it doesn’t put her at odds with the authorities.
“I think as long as it’s within the law,” Pompeo shared. “Alex is her ride-or-die.”
Alex is the only remaining character from Meredith’s days as an intern and he’s also her best friend, especially since Christina (Sandra Oh) is long gone.
On the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith tried her best to persuade DeLuca not to press felony charges against Alex.
Unfortunately, DeLuca thought Meredith was threatening him, which made Meredith second guess her motives.
“Meredith has to pull it back,” Pompeo explained. “She took that step towards possibly threatening, and then got her hand slapped by Dr. Bailey, and she doesn’t want to make anything worse for Alex, so she’s had to rein it in.” Pompeo continued, “She owns the hospital — she doesn’t need a lawsuit.”
With Meredith and Alex closer than ever, many fans are wondering if Shonda Rhimes will match them together this season.
“We have Riggs in the mix, too, so we can’t just go to the Alex place!” Pompeo said. “No one knows what will come out of Shonda Rhimes’s mind. I never try to predict the future, in my job or in my real life.”
Speaking of Riggs (Martin Henderson), International Business Times is reporting that Meredith will start patching up her relationship with Maggie (Kelly McCreary) in the coming episode of Grey’s Anatomy, “I Ain’t No Miracle Worker.”
Maggie is damaged by Meredith’s romance with Riggs and tensions between the sisters will remain high for a while longer.
“One of the things that we know about Maggie, is that she is really a stickler for honesty and the truth,” McCreary told TV Guide. “In her first season, she really holds it against Richard that he didn’t tell her [he was her father] right away, that he withheld the truth for any length of time. To me, that’s an indication of how we can expect Maggie to feel about any lack of honesty, any lack of full transparency and disclosure in a relationship — especially with somebody that she trusts and, more than trusts, really relies upon as much as Meredith.”
Meanwhile, Alex’s future at Grey Sloan Memorial hangs in the balance this season.
Depending on what happens with DeLuca, there is a very real possibility that Alex could lose everything.
According to Hollywood Life, Alex is headed for some rough times. But will his struggles actually be beneficial in the long run?
“He’s going to be working at the Duquette Clinic, so let’s see what direction that takes him in,” Chambers explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “He’s definitely going to serve something, and he’s got to find redemption.”
In the coming episode, fans will also see Arizona (Jessica Chastain) return to find Alex in the middle of his current predicament.
Apparently, Alex’s work at the new clinic might open the door to him working with Arizona once again.
“I think an interesting story’s going to happen there,” Chambers revealed. “Maybe there’s something that he can pull Arizona into at the clinic, something that’s important in pediatrics.”
