One Direction’s Harry Styles Doesn’t Share Zayn Malik’s Anxiety: Styles Tells Another Man ‘I Loved’ ‘Playing These Big Venues’
One Direction’s Harry Styles and Zayn Malik prove once again that two people can experience the same thing and feel very differently about their experience. Mr. Malik suffers from a form of social anxiety that is really painful. Zayn does not always enjoy performing, but Harry put big venue performances into his own perspective.
Harry Styles’ Another Man interview is quoted in People. Styles plainly does not share Zayn Malik’s discomfort with crowds. For Harry, the experience is completely opposite.
“Playing these big venues when you just see a sea of people, that view … You stop for a second and wish you could bring all your friends to just stand there with you for a second and see it, It’s unlike anything else. There’s no drug you can take that gives you that same high. It’s pretty amazing that it’s a natural thing. The feelings come back to you – the view, the people. It’s cool to have such specific moments in your mind to look back on.”

One Direction’s Harry Styles Another Man interview is proving that everything is in the attitude, perspective, and point of view. Sometimes the same experiences can be experienced by different individuals in very diverse ways. Malik and Styles stood side by side on that stage, night after night, yet Harry was having a blast, and apparently Zayn wasn’t always able to enjoy it.
Because of Zayn Malik’s anxiety, he finds the stage traumatic, but Harry Styles loves it and just can’t get enough of the crowds. The bigger the crowd, the more Styles enjoys it, and in contrast, the more likely Malik is to cancel the show due to anxiety. It’s nobody’s fault, and certainly Zayn can’t help it, but it is nice to know that all the boys in One Direction were not suffering from this kind of anxiety.
Harry Styles’ Another Man interview was very telling of his outlook on life. Harry never had the feeling that Malik described to Fader, of not getting to do what he wanted. Styles told Another Man everything was as he wanted it. Styles is quoted in People:
“The nice thing for me is that I’m not coming away from the band feeling like I wasn’t able to do what I wanted to do. I loved it and it was what I wanted but I’m enjoying writing at the moment; trying new things. I’ve been asking myself, ‘What do I want to say?'”
Zayn Malik, by contrast, told Fader a year ago that he felt censored and restricted creatively. Malik was not happy:
“There was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band,”
Were One Direction’s Harry Styles and Zayn Malik actually in the same band? Their accounts seem different. Yet we know from reading their quotes that neither of them lies. It would have been caught by now. It can’t be a matter of an either/or kind of truth. Each man has his own truth, based on his own feelings about what is happening around him.
Harry Styles’ Another Man interview seems to be almost deliberately contradicting what Zayn has said, but when one looks at this quote of Harry’s, it all becomes clear. Harry told Another Man he loves the same crowds that terrify Zayn Malik.
One Direction’s Harry Styles and Zayn Malik are on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to stage fright and apparently just about everything else. Big venues really bother Malik.
Zayn Malik is no villain, though. He’s just trying his best to deal with his darker, more brooding emotions and his social anxiety. Not everyone can be constantly cheerful like Harry. It is a true gift that he seems to be so completely positive, so ambitious, and so happy almost all the time, but most people don’t have that.
Anyone studying Zayn Malik in recent months, watching videos of his movements, viewing pictures shot on city streets, and reading his comments, knows that Zayn is really going through something difficult in dealing with his anxiety. His condition is not a new thing for him, but it has gotten so much worse in the last few months.
Zayn Malik is in pain emotionally. The symptoms of his anxiety are clearly visible. He needs Directioners to keep on loving him through this.
To One Direction’s Harry Styles, Zayn’s problems must seem very strange. Why is Malik having anxiety about something Styles clearly appreciates so much? Because people are different, and Zayn has a sort of social phobia.
Zayn Malik is a really sweet guy, and so good to Gigi Hadid, whom he feels so lucky to have by his side. Gigi and Zayn are just adorable together. Not only that, Malik definitely considers Miss Hadid an asset, a friend, and a tremendous help to him. Gigi is so much more to Zayn than just a girlfriend. She’s not in his way; she is the way to happiness for him.
One Direction’s Harry Styles also likes girls a lot, but he’s not ready to settle down. Styles is focused on his career and figures a steady girlfriend or wife would just get in the way right now. He could not devote enough time to a girl to even be fair to her, as busy as he is. Plus, Harry loves the Directioners. He adores them.
