New iPod Touch And Nano Coming Soon From Apple

Apple’s new iPod Touch 5 and Nano might be just around the corner if news reports are to be believed. Customers who pre-ordered the iPod Touch 5 have received messages telling them Apple is “preparing for shipment.” If that’s the case, then the likely official release date might be as early as October 9. Other reports might have the iPod Touch and Nano launching near the end of the month according to The Huffington Post. For those who decided to wait until now to order, customers are being told they would have to wait “three weeks”but possibly more depending on popularity.

The iPod Touch has long needed an overhaul. The last model to launch was back in 2010. The 5th generation iPod Touch comes in two versions with the only difference being the memory capacity: 32GB and 64GB. The higher capacity model has been priced at $399 USD.

Like the last generation iPod Touch, the new one shares much of the same hardware as the iPhone. The 2012 model includes the exact same four inch display as the iPhone 5, which has an integrated touch panel and a screen resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels. Gamers will be happier with the beefier A5 chip previously featured in the iPhone 4. While not the A6 chip from the iPhone 5, Apple still claims it is up to seven times faster than the previous iPod Touch.

The iPod Touch 5 also features an improved battery life, which should be able to play 40 hours of music, 8 hours of video, and hours of gaming (depending on the game). The camera system has also received an upgraded with a 5-megapixel rear-facing lense that can record 1080p video, but FaceTime is limited to 720p.
