Joran Van Der Sloot To Become A Father While Behind Bars
Joran Van der Sloot, who is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence for the murder of a young Peruvian woman, has reportedly impregnated his girlfriend while behind bars. According to the New York Post, conception took place during an unsupervised visit between the young woman and the convicted killer over three months ago.
News of Joran Van der Sloot’s unexpected foray into fatherhood was confirmed by his attorney Maximo Altes in the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. The news outlet also stated that the rumor was confirmed by Van der Sloot himself during a recent telephone call. The murderer, who is currently serving time in a Peruvian prison, reportedly hooked up with a woman identified only as “Leidi.” Not surprisingly, little information about the pregnancy or the expectant mother have been made available to the public as of this writing.
According to UPI, Joran Van der Sloot was convicted in 2010 of the murder of 21-year-old Peruvian student Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez. For his crimes, Van der Sloot will spend the next 28 years of his life behind bars. However, this apparently hasn’t stopped the guy from becoming a father.
Stephany Flores’ killer is also wanted by authorities in the United States on extortion charges. Joran Van der Sloot allegedly took over $250,000 from missing teenager Natalee Holloway’s parents in exchange for information regarding their daughter’s whereabouts. However, the info supplied by Van der Sloot was reportedly bogus, a fact which didn’t settle well with American officials.
However, should Joran Van der Sloot obtain Peruvian citizenship, authorities in the United States may have a difficult time getting their hands on the suspect. The fact that his girlfriend is now pregnant could help the convicted murderer’s chances of obtaining citizenship in the country where he is currently imprisoned. The Daily Mail explains that he could spend only ten years in prison should he display good behavior and obtain Peruvian citizenship.
Do you think Joran Van der Sloot should be allowed to see his child during his prison sentence?
