Get To Know ‘This Is Us’ Actress Chrissy Metz: Who Is Kate In Real Life?

This is Us is only two episodes into its premiere season, and fans are already in love with the storyline and the cast. One of the most popular characters that fans cannot get enough of is actress Chrissy Metz. This is Us cast Chrissy to play Kate, an overweight woman trying to deal with the difficulties of losing weight and accepting her body image all while living in the shadows of her brother’s fame. It was not hard for viewers to fall in love with Chrissy’s character. She pulled at fans heartstrings with her struggles and loving personality.

Metz is not going anywhere soon either. Variety shared that NBC ordered a full 18 episode season after the premiere was such a huge hit. Entertainment Tonight has even named Chrissy as the 2016 fall TV breakout star. They surprised her with the award, and she was extremely grateful telling them how great it was. Metz said, “That makes me feel super special!”

While This is Us is undoubtedly going to be huge for Metz, this is not her first television role. In 2014 Chrissy was cast on American Horror Story: Freak Show as Barbara, or otherwise known as Wiggles. People shared that Metz experienced weird energy while filming the show in New Orleans. Chrissy said she felt an odd energy in her hotel room. Chrissy said, “I think New Orleans just has an interesting energy.” Metz reportedly switched hotel rooms hoping that would help.

Metz has talked to The Doctors, and during her interview, she did express the importance of being healthy and being happy with who you are. Chrissy told them that for her American Horror Story role they wanted her to be larger than she was. Metz revealed they made her a fat suit to add weight to her character, Barbara. When asked how that made her feel, Chrissy shared that yes it did make her realize that she never wanted to gain that much weight and that being healthy is a priority. Metz shared that she has had success losing weight the old fashioned way, eating healthy and exercising. Chrissy said for her she only wants to lose weight naturally.

Chrissy has been through the hard times of being rejected for roles because she did not fit their needs, some even said she was too attractive to play a plus size part. That is until This is Us became an opportunity. Metz is a beautiful plus size woman and an amazing actress who is finally getting her success story. Chrissy fit her character Kate to perfection. On the show, Metz seems to always be in the shadows of her twin brother Kevin, who is a big Hollywood star. Kate’s new boyfriend Toby is dedicated to making her feel special and seeing her worth. In an upcoming preview for episode 3 of This is Us viewers see Toby, played by Chris Sullivan, prepare a special day where Kate is the star and the center of attention.

Refinery 29 shared how Chrissy feels about being a plus-sized actress in today’s society. Chrissy said, “You know, it’s one thing to struggle with your weight here and there, but for me, it’s been since I literally was a child, since I was a little girl. I get it. I get it as me, Chrissy, and then Kate, as a character.” Chrissy has shared that she feels a responsibility to represent those who are struggling with their weight. While it is a big part of who she is Metz does not let weight define her. Metz is a huge inspiration to many of her fans. Chrissy stays positive about her body image and she said, “I truly believe that if you don’t accept yourself or where you’re at, you can’t get to the place where you want to be, or become the person you feel you’re supposed to be.”

Chrissy’s character Kate is not the only one who celebrated their 36th birthday recently. Metz also turned 36, and her party was even titled “This is 36.” People shared the details of the biggest birthday party Chrissy has ever had. Metz said, “Kate and I are both on the precipice of incredible times in our lives. Coming into our own and achieving personal success and happiness simultaneously is pretty amazing.” It looks like 36 is going to be a huge year for Chrissy as she becomes even more loved for her new role on This is Us. Chrissy can be seen on This is Us airing Tuesday nights on NBC at its new time of 8 p.m. CST.
