Drake Disses Matt Barnes Over Rihanna Romance Claims, Dons Derek Fisher Jersey For LA Concert
Drake and Rihanna may be keeping tight-lipped regarding the status of their rumored relationship, but it looks like Drake isn’t shy when it comes to publicly declaring his love for the “Needed Me” singer.
On Tuesday, Drake appeared to take a not-so-subtle jab at Sacramento Kings forward Matt Barnes after he was spotted donning a Derek Fisher jersey during his stop at The Forum in Inglewood, California for his Summer Sixteen Tour, Hot New Hip Hop reports. Coincidentally, Barnes, who previously claimed to have had a romantic relationship with Drake’s rumored girlfriend, Rihanna, made headlines earlier this year after it was revealed that his former wife, Gloria Govan, is now dating Fisher, prompting Barnes to battle it out with the former L.A. Lakers player both in person and on social media.

While it’s not certain that Drake was aiming to diss Matt Barnes by showing his support for Fisher during his concert at The Forum, Drake appeared to throw even more shade at the basketball star on Instagram after taking to the social media site to share a photo of himself donning his Fisher jersey alongside a caption that seemingly references Barnes’ former contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.
“SOMETIMES IT CAN GET GRIZZLY….,” Drake wrote in the caption of his Instagram photo alongside a bear emoji, further fueling speculation that the “One Dance” rapper was dissing Barnes for previously claiming to have dated Rihanna despite the songstress’ denial of a romantic relationship with the athlete.
Last year, Matt Barnes fueled romance rumors with Rihanna after he took to Instagram to make the Barbadian beauty his #WCW (Woman Crush Wednesday) before further escalating the dating claims by revealing to TMZ that he and Rihanna were “past the crush stage” in their alleged relationship. When asked if he and Rihanna had a romantic relationship amid the ongoing dating rumors, Barnes explained to the site that while he and the singer were currently just “friends,” he was eager to see where their friendship could take them in the future.
“I think it just passed the crush stage a little bit,” Matt Barnes explained to the site before noting that Rihanna’s wealth would help to overcome any long-distance issues that may arise given his then-recent move to Memphis, Tennessee. “She’s rich, we’ll be alright,” Barnes continued, albeit noting that claims suggesting that he and Rihanna had been on an official date at the time were nothing but “rumors” and “speculation.”
In response to Matt Barnes’ claims, Rihanna promptly took to Instagram to blast the Memphis Grizzlies forward by reposting TMZ’s video interview with Barnes alongside several scathing hashtags such as “#bishwhere,” “#thedevilisaliar,” “#shesnotthatintoyou,” and “#defamationofcharacter,” before even noting that Matt Barnes’ false claims had hurt her feelings.
While Barnes later responded to Rihanna’s denial of a romantic relationship, telling TMZ that he is “too grown to lie” about the dating claims and later blasting Rihanna personally on his own Instagram account, Rihanna made it clear that she had no interest in entertaining the romance claims between herself and Barnes. The songstress was spotted just weeks later hanging out with Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton in her native Barbados, although Hamilton later dispelled dating claims by noting that he and Rihanna are nothing more than good friends.
