‘Prison Break’ Season 5 Cast: Which Actors Are Returning For The Upcoming Reboot?
Despite concluding pretty definitively back in 2010, Fox confirmed earlier this year that their hit series Prison Break would be returning for a limited reboot. Whilst the new season is only set to be nine episodes in length with no guarantee of further episodes beyond that, it’ll be the first time the Prison Break cast have been back together since the series ended in 2010. So which of the original cast members have been confirmed for Season 5 of Prison Break and which are giving the new season a pass?
Which cast members are returning?
Fans of Prison Break will be pleased to hear that the majority of their favorite characters from the original series are returning for this limited reboot. Most prominently, of course, are Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell. The pair is best known for their roles as brothers Michael Schofield and Lincoln Burrows in the original Prison Break series. Fox confirmed their return alongside the announcement of the new season, which is no surprise considering the entire premise of Prison Break focuses on the brothers.
That being said, Michael won’t just have his brother to look out for in the new season, but his wife also. According to Digital Spy, despite some initial hesitance, Sarah Wayne Callies has been signed by Fox to reprise her role as Sara Tancredi in the new season, confirming a heartbreaking reunion between the pair.
Similarly, Michael will have a couple of his compadres from the original escape onboard too, with both Amaury Nolasco and Rockmond Dunbar confirming that they’ll reprise their respective roles as Fernando Sucre and Benjamin ‘C-Note’ Franklin. Nolasco’s return was widely predicted following an Instagram post made by Dominic Purcell, which was later deleted. However, not long later, Nolasco confirmed the news himself, meaning Sucre will be ready to make an appearance in the rebooted series.
In the perhaps slightly polarizing news, Robert Knepper has confirmed that his series villain Theodore ‘T-Bag’ Bagwell will also be making an appearance in the new season. However, speaking about his return, Knepper said that he hopes his character is taken in a different direction this season, confirming the new series will show a different side to T-Bag.

Which cast members aren’t returning?
As it stands, only one member of the original Prison Break gang won’t be returning for the reboot. According to the Express, William Fichtner, best known for his role as Alexander Mahone in the series will not be returning. Robert Knepper confirmed that writer Paul Scheuring didn’t have a clear path in mind for the character, saying, “He didn’t want to just bring everybody back, so that the audience go, ‘Oh, look, it’s Bill Fichtner again!’ – he honestly thought, ‘I’m not sure where to do that in the plot.'”
“So if someday there’s another chapter of this, maybe then Bill will be back. But I think the characters that are there, each of our moments that we have, are key to the storytelling, which is how it should be.”
With that in mind, there’s always the possibility that Fichtner could make a return in a future reboot.

Of course, Prison Break’s producers have confirmed that we’ll see plenty of new faces join the gang when the reboot premieres next year. There’s no definitive date set for the new season of Prison Break as it stands, but production is believed to have begun. In fact, Purcell recently confirmed that he’d suffered an injury on the set of the show, but that injury is set to be written into the series’ plot, meaning that Dominic Purcell’s character will appear in full.
