WWE Clash Of Champions Preview: Breaking Down Every Match

WWE Clash of Champions takes place tonight on the WWE Network, and every title from the WWE Monday Night Raw brand is on the line. The WWE announced that the preshow kicks off at 7 p.m. EST and the main Clash of Champions show starts at 8 p.m. EST on the WWE Network.

Originally, Clash of Champions was a WCW event, created to compete with WWE pay-per-views. The WCW version included some of the best matches in WCW history including classic Ric Flair title defenses against names like Sting, Ricky Steamboat, and Terry Funk.

With such a great history, here is a look at this year’s WWE Clash of Champions show and a breakdown of all the matches.

WWE Clash of Champions Preshow: Nia Jax vs. Alicia Fox

This first match continues the story of monster women’s wrestler Nia Jax. She spent all of her WWE Monday Night Raw career so far beating jobbers and now gets a name talent in Alicia Fox. Nia Jax will win this match as well but, hopefully, they give Nia Jax a chance to show some of her skills.

WWE Clash of Champions Best of 7 Series: Cesaro vs. Sheamus

Sheamus won the first three matches in the best of seven series with Cesaro and then Cesaro came back to tie it up, including a non-televised WWE house show match. Now, they get a chance for win seven at Clash of Champions. This is a tough one. Cesaro deserves the win to push him higher on the card but a loss to Sheamus could result in Cesaro getting traded to SmackDown Live, a place he could really shine. Expect a hard hitting match with Cesaro winning.

Chris Jericho vs. Sami Zayn

Chris Jericho is at the point in his career where he is putting over young stars. He is also one of the most entertaining characters on WWE television right now. This match is interesting because Sami Zayn has a life-long blood feud with Kevin Owens, and Ownes is a friend of Jericho. This is a match Sami Zayn has to win if he wants to really move forward on the card.

WWE Clash of Champions Cruiserweight Championship: TJ Perkins vs. The Brian Kendrick

The WWE Cruiserweight Classic was the greatest special event that the WWE has possibly ever created outside of WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble. However, this match was booked strangely. The WWE Monday Night Raw audience has not even seen TJ Perkins yet so they booked him to fight a WWE veteran in Brian Kendrick. As the Inquisitr previously reported, this was a rags-to-riches story for TJ Perkins, so expect him to retain in a solid match.

WWE Clash of Champions Tag Team Championship: New Day vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson

This feud has been a mess as the WWE tried to make Gallows and Anderson a comedy duo instead of the butt kickers that they really are. However, the WWE has redirected the feud and made Gallows and Anderson more serious in the last two weeks. There is no reason to think that New Day loses unless the WWE wants to move Enzo and Big Cass into the title picture against Gallows and Anderson. That is likely the case and Gallows and Anderson might finally win the belts here but hold them for a short time.

WWE Clash of Champions Women’s Championship: Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley

The fact that Bayley has been made to look like a star but then fed her losses leading into this makes it seem like she has no chance to take the title. The smart thinking is that Sasha Banks wins the title and finally gets a real reign after injuries ended her first one. The swerve is that Bayley comes out of nowhere to win what should be a great match. What will likely happen is that Charlotte keeps her title.

WWE Clash of Champions United States Championship: Rusev vs. Roman Reigns

Rusev is hugely over as a villainous heel champion and fans seem to still remain divided over Roman Reigns, many booing him no matter what he does. As The Inquisitr previously reported, Reigns is being kept out of the Universal Championship picture, so expect him to win the secondary title here and end Rusev’s title reign.

WWE Clash of Champions Universal Championship: Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins

Kevin Owens has been great as the WWE Universal Champion but there are grumblings that the WWE wants a change with the low ratings that has nothing to do with Owens but everything to do with the NFL season starting. If Seth Rollins wins the title, he will likely remain a face and take on the Daniel Bryan role as the guy that Triple H keeps trying to screw over. Either that or Owens wins because Triple H interferes. Either one is a strong possibility, but expect outside interference of some sort in this WWE Clash of Champions main event.
