NBA Rumors: Houston Rockets Trade Michael Beasley To Milwaukee Bucks And Could Target Rudy Gay Next
The Houston Rockets made a trade today. After dealing forward Michael Beasley to the Milwaukee Bucks, do the Rockets have another move up their sleeve? Expect a few NBA rumors regarding what the Rockets might do next after moving Beasley. The trade the Houston Rockets made is one that opens the door for something else to happen.
Most NBA teams are less than two weeks away from starting their training camps. The Houston Rockets are no exception. The purpose of training camp is simple — get in shape, get acclimated or re-acclimated with teammates, and for coaches to see what they have. The Rockets and Bucks will have a new player to get accustomed to when their camps begin.
ESPN, along with several other media outlets, have reported the deal between the Rockets and Bucks. The trade sent Michael Beasley to Milwaukee, and brought back guard Tyler Ennis in return.
The Bucks’ need for Michael Beasley makes a ton of sense. Beasley’s ability to score will help the Bucks tremendously. Dealing with the Rockets was timely for Milwaukee.
According to Yahoo! Sports, swingman Khris Middleton will miss six months after suffering a torn hamstring. Middleton’s injury happened just a day prior to the Bucks trading for Beasley. It is safe to say that the Milwaukee Bucks moved fast in finding a temporary replacement for Middleton, who could conceivably miss the entire 2016-17 season.
Michael Beasley was instant offense for the Houston Rockets. He should provide a similar scoring punch with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Beasley’s impact can actually become greater with the Bucks. Milwaukee has some young talent, but there is a lack of true scorers on the team. As long as the former No. 2 pick from the 2008 NBA draft can stay in Bucks’ head coach Jason Kidd’s good graces, his move will help him and the team a great deal.
Michael Beasley represented an easy decision for the Rockets. He was playing under a team-friendly contract. Moving him to get Tyler Ennis was not a necessity for the Rockets. And they did not hold the Bucks hostage and ask for a draft pick.
Because Beasley is a bargain, it will help a Bucks team that will be looking to save money where they can.
The Houston Rockets seem to have something else in mind. It should be considered quite odd that the Rockets would trade Beasley to the Bucks, when he could have thrived in an offensive system ran by Mike D’Antoni. It is possible that the Rockets are closing in on a trade for Rudy Gay of the Sacramento Kings.
Rudy Gay has been on the radar of the Rockets all summer, if any of the NBA rumors are true.
A CBS Sports report in August confirmed the Rockets’ interest in Rudy Gay. If the Rockets are still targeting the Kings’ small forward, can a deal be had?
If the Kings are willing to get something for Gay, a deal with the Rockets is unlikely. Sacramento could also be comfortable with the notion of just trading Gay for the sake of team chemistry. If the latter happens, then look for the Rockets to pounce on Rudy Gay. The fit is unquestionable now that Michael Beasley is with the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Rockets are now missing the instant offense that Beasley once provided them. Interestingly enough, Rudy Gay is also instant offense. Gay would provide that to the Rockets if they are successful in securing a trade.
When the Houston Rockets decided to make a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks by sending out Michael Beasley, it left open a hole in terms of offensive potential. It does not appear reasonable for anyone to believe that the Rockets are done with their moves. Looks for the Rockets to continue wheeling and dealing.
