Kevin McKidd Admits Sandra Oh ‘Might’ Return To ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ As Cristina Yang
Grey’s Anatomy fans hoping to see Sandra Oh bring Cristina Yang back to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital might be in luck after Oh’s onscreen husband, Kevin McKidd, dropped a big hint about her potential return.
McKidd, who plays Yang’s former husband, Owen Hunt, on the ABC medical drama, revealed in a new interview with Digital Spy that he believes Sandra might bring back Cristina to the series at least one more time.
“I’d love it if she came back,” Kevin said of Sandra, who he appeared alongside in Grey’s Anatomy from 2008 until Oh left the series in 2014, before sending fans into a frenzy by teasing her possible return.
“I think she might eventually for fun, for maybe a couple of episodes,” McKidd cotinued of Sandra’s potential Grey’s Anatomy return. “I don’t think she’d come back for anything long term, but who the hell knows?”
The actor also joked in the interview that Sandra wasn’t too pleased when his character, Owen, married Amelia in the season 12 finale of Grey’s Anatomy, which appears to suggest Cristina may return to the series to reclaim her former husband.
“She was joking, but she was a bit like, ‘you didn’t tell me you were getting married!'” Kevin told the site about Sandra’s reaction to Owen and Amelia’s wedding. “She’s happy for Owen, really. I think she’s happy he married another Canadian actress.”
Sandra also joked about Cristina’s former husband marrying again on social media back in June, where she posted a snap of herself and her TV husband and made it known that she wasn’t exactly thrilled about Owen’s new love interest.
“And wait – my TV husband has a new TV wife?? Xqueez me?” Sandra captioned a shot of herself and her Grey’s Anatomy husband on the social media site. “I don’t think so, Ha! Owen what r u thinking??”

Notably, Grey’s Anatomy fans have been lobbying for Oh to bring back Cristina ever since the actress departed the series in 2011, although McKidd’s admission that Sandra might one day return comes just days after Oh hinted that it isn’t likely to be anytime soon.
Recently, Sandra shot down the rumors of her return as Cristina Yang when she made it clear that she had no plans to head back to Grey’s Anatomy in the near future. She spoke about her plans during an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival.
When asked by the news outlet if she would be bringing back Cristina in season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy, which is set to premiere on ABC on September 22, Oh blasted the rampant rumors by replying, “No, I have no plans to return to Grey’s anytime soon.”
“I’ve gotta tell you those rumors,” Oh added of reports claiming she had big plans to bring Cristina back to Grey’s Anatomy, “I don’t know who starts them but it really is tough.”
Grey’s Anatomy fans didn’t exactly react well to Sandra’s disappointing news that Cristina would not return in season 13, and many viewers took to social media to put Oh on blast after months of speculation hinting that Yang could be making her way back to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
But while Oh shot down the rumors after Kevin’s recent admission that Cristina Yang “might” one day return to the long running drama series, it looks like Grey’s Anatomy fans hoping to see Cristina back may now have a glimmer of hope.
