When it comes to new relationship news among Hallyu stars, 2016 technically is lacking. Why the biggest news pertaining to Korean stars in confirmed relationships so far has to be Kai and Krystal, the K-pop idols of EXO and f(x) respectively. Following said confirmation from SM Entertainment, many netizens made their opinions known, typing away on online fan clubs and chat groups what they think of the couple. One of the creepier netizens actually went as far as to claim Kai and Krystal were having sexual relations by posting a picture of a receipt for condoms Kai allegedly bought at a convenience store.
Besides those mentioned above, there is very little on confirmed relationships. So it came out of nowhere when Yenny and Jinwoon’s relationship was recently announced. JYP Entertainment just made the announcement that the K-pop idols of Wonder Girls and 2AM respectively are the newest confirmed Hallyu couple.
JYP Entertainment, the entertainment company Yenny is signed to as a member of Wonder Girls and Jinwoon was signed to as a member of 2AM, confirmed the relationship just recently, as reported by AllKpop . According to their statement, Yenny and Jinwoon were dating for the past two years .
“Hello. This is JYP Entertainment.
“Yenny and Jinwoon have built up a special relationship by being under the same company and by sharing their musical interests.
“The two, who shared a common denominator called music, went from friends to lovers toward the beginning of 2014, and continue to maintain their relationship even after Jinwoon signed on with Mystic Entertainment.
“Even now, they hold back no advice or encouragement toward each other’s music, and remain a beautiful musician couple.
“Please watch over Yenny and Jinwoon’s relationship fondly and cheer them on.”
In retrospect, both Yenny and Jinwoon had plenty of time to develop their relationship with each other in a similar way to how Kai and Krystal developed their relationship for each other. Wonder Girls made their debut back in 2007 while 2AM made their debut back in 2008. At this moment, they would have been friends for six years and lovers for two years simply by debut date. However, training can often be as short as six months to as long as three to five years. Ergo, Yenny and Jinwoon could have known each other far longer than just since 2008.
Nevertheless, Korean netizens are backtracking the last two years trying to find foreshadowed clues that hinted at Yenny and Jinwoon’s relationship prior to its official confirmation. The first clue they think they came across is Jinwoon’s comment on the album cover for Wonder Girls’ 2015 comeback album, Reboot . On his official Instagram , Jinwoon commented that Wonder Girls should wear pants. At the time, fans thought the comment was humorous, but now they think Jinwoon was worried Yenny was showing a little too much skin.
Other foreshadows hinting to Yenny and Jinwoon’s relationship includes fans claiming they spotted the two wearing couples’ rings, seeing them on dates multiple times, and even the fact Yenny attended Jinwoon’s brother’s wedding in which she even sang for the newlyweds.
As for Yenny and Jinwoon’s K-pop groups respectively, Wonder Girls recently had their 2016 comeback, a single titled Why So Lonely (music video attached above). The stand-alone song was a critical success as a non-album single reaching number one on the Korean Gaon chart and number five on the Billboard US World chart. They also won four trophies for the song too starting with The Show . Also, Wonder Girls made a featured appearance, alongside Twice, on J.Y. Park’s music video “ Fire ” featuring Conan O’Brien and Steven Yeun.
2AM on the other hand is in a peculiar situation. At this moment, Jo Kwon is the only member of 2AM still signed with JYP Entertainment. Back in March 2015, Jinwoon and Seulong opted not to renew their contracts and have decided to pursue signing with other agencies. Changmin ended his contract later that year. Still, JYP Entertainment assures that 2AM will not be breaking up despite three of the four members not being a part of the talent agency anymore (or at least for now).
