‘Arrow’ Season 5 Spoilers: Felicity Smoak Has A Plan To Save Team Arrow, Will Oliver Agree? [Extended Preview]
Oliver Queen could use a lot of help when Arrow returns for Season 5. Last season featured the destruction of Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) team following Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) death. Does Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) have a plan to save Team Arrow?
Enstarz reports that both Thea (Willa Holland) and Diggle (David Ramsey) decided they had enough and left Oliver’s side for good by the end of Season 4. Oliver was elected mayor, although he and Felicity have a lot of work to do if they want to keep Star City’s crime rate from rising.
Thankfully, Felicity has a plan to help the Green Arrow keep criminals off the streets. In the Season 5 premiere, fans can expect to see Felicity convince Oliver that he needs to gather a new team of superheroes. While Oliver initially rejects the idea, he soon takes two new heroes under his wing.
Now, Diggle and Thea will eventually return to Team Arrow, but there will be a significant adjustment period while they deal with the new recruits.
“He’s [Diggle] not going to love all these little upstarts, trying to take over his role,” Wendy Mericle revealed. “But he’ll adjust. He’s going to find some common ground with Wild Dog, and that will help take the sting out of it.”
Who are these new recruits? According to Comic Book, fans will see Curtis become Mr. Terrific, and the show will also introduce Artemis and Wild Dog.
Apparently, the season will start with Diggle stationed overseas and dealing with the fallout from killing his brother last season.

“He’s still in the military, and he’s very much a man without a state,” Mericle said. “He’s away from his family, and he’s away from the team, so he’s away from that family. He’s trying to figure out how he can get that sense of himself back after killing his brother.”
Meanwhile, Comic Book reports that executive producer Marc Guggenheim also discussed this year’s Arrow storyline and the opening episode, “Legacy.”
“Essentially the theme that we’re dealing with this year is legacy. The idea [is] Oliver honoring Black Canary’s legacy after Laurel’s death last year,” he shared. “As the season progresses, you’ll see that there are a lot of callbacks to Season 1. What we’re doing is we’re dramatizing Oliver’s desire to grow, move forward, and evolve, but this concept of legacy keeps threatening to pull him back to the early days.”
Oliver’s attraction to the past will be made worse by this season’s big bad, a character named Prometheus who Oliver unwittingly created.
Speaking of the past, this season will feature the final flashbacks of Oliver’s past.
Flashbacks have been an integral part of the show since the first season, and this year they will reach the conclusion of Oliver’s time on the island by focusing on his time in Russia with the Bratva. This storyline will introduce an important Bratva leader, played by Rocky IV’s Dolph Lundgren.
While fans have a pretty clear idea what they can expect next season, iDigital Times is reporting that the season’s first villain will be Tobias Church (Chad L. Coleman). It isn’t clear what Church is up to, although his criminal ways force Oliver to re-think his strategy and consider Felicity’s plan to expand his team.
Hopefully, the new team members won’t cause too much trouble once Thea and Diggle come back to the fold.
At the same time, it will be interesting to see who Prometheus turns out to be and just how much Oliver played a part in his creation.
The new season of Arrow is set to premiere on The CW on Oct. 5. Be sure to check out the preview below.
