Laura Linney On Clint Eastwood’s ‘One Take’ Direction Style, And Why She Kept Quiet About Her Later-Life Pregnancy
Laura Linney has once again teamed with Clint Eastwood to play the role of Lorraine Sullenberger, the wife of Captain Chesley Sullenberger, in the hit movie Sully. Directed by Eastwood and starring the legendary Tom Hanks, the newly released film focuses on the events that followed after Captain Sullenberger successfully executed an emergency water landing in New York’s Hudson River.

The incident took place in 2009, eight years after the fateful September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Additionally, the 2009 event took place amidst the global financial crisis which had shaken up the entire world.
Although Captain Sullenberger went through a harrowing investigation after the incident, Laura Linney, like many other Americans, still hails the aviator as a hero. During the memorable moment, the last thing that New Yorkers and Americans at large wanted to witness was the plane going up flames, causing unbearable misery to the lives of those whose loved ones were traveling on it.
The tension of the moment was especially felt by Laura Linney’s father, who could clearly witness the scene from his New York apartment that overlooks the Hudson River. In the Love Actually actress’s opinion, the incident was more than it seemed at the time as it required a careful maneuvering on the part of the experienced aviator, who had spent his entire life not only flying aircraft but also understanding the complexities of how the sophisticated machines work.

Apart from appreciating the pilot’s aviation skills, Laura Linney also pointed out that the captain’s feat proved to be truly heroic due to his ability to maintain his composure in such a challenging and traumatic situation, one which very nearly claimed the lives of 155 passengers and aircrew. TV3 reports that Laura Linney spoke about how important it is for people to remember the captain’s heroic deed, rather than doubting the judgment of the seasoned aviator.
“What blew everyone’s minds was someone would attempt that type of landing, but more than anything that everyone survived.”
Apart from being thrilled with the prospect of paying tribute to the aviator, Laura Linney was excited at the opportunity to reteam with Clint Eastwood, one of her favorite celebrities with whom she had previously worked in movies like Absolute Power and Mystic River. Like many others who have collaborated with the talented actor and director, including Tom Hanks, Laura Linney continued to be amazed by Eastwood’s “single take” direction style.

The Love Actually actress admitted that she focused on performing in a way that would enable the director to get his best shot the first time, without relying on numerous takes. Additionally, working with a veteran director like Clint Eastwood has helped Laura Linney to establish her position among acting’s elite. According to Metro, Laura Linney revealed that Clint Eastwood is a choosy professional who prefers to work with actors whom his trusts deeply.
“He trusts the people he works with, so he doesn’t interfere. I mean, if he doesn’t like what you’re doing, he’s certainly going to step in and say no. He doesn’t just accept anything.”
In her personal life, Laura Linney is the proud mother of Bennett Armistead Schauer, her two-year-old son with her husband Marc Schauer, whom she gave birth to at 49-years-old. Laura Linney’s pregnancy caused gossip and scandal at the time, as the Truman Show actress was accused of being too secretive about her pregnancy. According to the Daily Mail, Laura Linney revealed the reason that she kept news of her pregnancy to herself while appearing on Live with Kelly.
“I was an older mother-to-be, and it had taken me a very, very long time to have a child. So I wanted to make sure that my child actually arrived, and was safe and healthy.”

Of course, Laura Linney shouldn’t have to give any reason for her “secrecy” about her pregnancy, as her personal life should arguably be completely separate from her professional commitments. But like any other celebrity, the Love Actually actress has found her personal life to be in the spotlight ever since she first found fame as an actress, causing her to feel that she needed to explain herself to her fans.
