Deondre Francois has heard himself compared to former Florida State Seminoles star quarterback Jameis Winston over the first two weeks of the college football season. He has high expectations placed on his shoulders and has been performing admirably for the Seminoles heading into a huge Week 3 matchup against the Louisville Cardinals.
Florida State is currently ranked No. 2 overall in the nation heading into Week 3 college football action. They would have no chance of being that high in the rankings without Francois leading the way.
Dalvin Cook is one of the best running backs in college football but hasn’t gotten off to a great start this year. There is no question that Cook will catch fire at some point in the next few weeks, but Jimbo Fisher and company will not shy away from putting the football in Francois’ hands.
At this point in time, Francois is ranked No. 6 on the ESPN Heisman Trophy watch.
Through the first two weeks of the 2016 season, Francois has completed 69.0 percent of his pass attempts for 681 yards, five touchdowns, and just one interception. Those numbers make him a worthy candidate at this point in the season and there are many reasons to believe that he is a front-runner to win it all when everything is said and done.
All of that being said, what five reasons can be given to support the statement that Deondre Francois will win the 2016 Heisman Trophy?
This isn’t your father’s classic QB showdown.

Florida State Will Be a Championship Contender
No matter what happens this weekend in Louisville, the Seminoles are going to be a team to be reckoned with at the end of the season. They may not end up winning a National Championship, but they are going to be talked about as a team to watch in the playoff race. Francois being the starting quarterback for a serious contender will help his stock in a big way.
The Pure Hype That Has Surrounded Him So Far
Hype has been a major help to Heisman winners in the past and it will help Francois’ case as well. He has been talked about as the next big thing at Florida State and the comparisons to Winston are big as well. Francois is one of the most talked-about players in college football right now and will continue to be throughout the rest of the season.
Hasn’t Scratched the Surface of His Potential in First Two Weeks
Francois may have solid numbers through his first two games, but he hasn’t come close to scratching his full potential. As he continues to play throughout the rest of the season, he will get better and put up bigger numbers. The increasing production that he will show will help him rise up the Heisman rankings.

Competition Is Easily Beatable
While there are some good players competing with Francois in the Heisman rankings, they are all easily beatable. Nick Chubb, Christian McCaffery, Lamar Jackson, J.T. Barrett, and Greg Ward Jr. are all currently competing at the top of the rankings. Francois has the potential to blow the voters away when it comes to the Heisman race if he reaches his full potential.
Francois Is the Most Talented Quarterback in the Nation
Last, but not least, Francois is the most talented quarterback in the college football nation. J.T. Barrett, Deshaun Watson, and Greg Ward Jr. are all good, but Francois has more talent than all of them. There is no question that the NFL is in Francois’ future if he stays healthy and that will show throughout his freshman season.
Expect to see the Heisman rankings change quite a bit over the next few weeks. Francois will stay in the picture and will start climbing toward the top of the rankings in that same period of time. By the end of the season, he will find a way to win the award.
