‘Blindspot’ Star Jaimie Alexander Teases Guilt, Anger, And Resentment
Blindspot is going through a series of changes in the upcoming new season, and that includes a new time slot that will lead to lighter violence in the series, but the show’s star, Jaimie Alexander, assures fans that the lighter tone won’t ruin the story. In fact, the Blindspot star teases plenty of emotional tension to keep the new season so compelling that the change in the tone will hardly be noticed. Additionally, Alexander’s co-star, Sullivan Stapleton, says Blindspot fans can look forward to more answers this time around, including the true identity of Jane Doe.
Blindspot Stars Tease The Identity Of Jane Doe
The revelation that Jane Doe, played by Jaimie Alexander, is not Taylor Shaw, Kurt’s (Sullivan Stapleton) childhood friend, has ruined any chance for mending the relationship between Jane and Kurt, shares E! News. It was also revealed in season 1 of Blindspot that Jane had been responsible for plotting everything out, including the tattoos and their significance, even though she no longer remembers all of the details.
“To Kurt, it was a huge betrayal,” Stapleton told E! News. “He believes that she could have potentially known the whole time. So that’s kind of hard-hitting, to be an FBI agent and have those beliefs that are wrong.”
Meanwhile, Blindspot will be bringing in Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife) as the head of a secret N.S.A. department. Panjabi’s Blindspot character has been monitoring Jane for a year and has observed the betrayal and the mistrust that followed the revelation that Jane Doe is not Taylor Shaw. Archie says her Blindspot character comes in to try to patch things up and keep everyone focused on what’s important.
While everything seems to still be focused on who Jane Doe really is, creator and showrunner Martin Gero says Blindspot will deal with those issues and move on toward a new story arc.
“If the first season was about who is Jane Doe, we want to answer those questions so we can move into what the second season is about, which I can’t really tell you because it is a spoiler if I say what the theme is,” says the Blindspot producer.
Jaimie Alexander Teases Guilt, Anger, And Resentment For Season 2 Of Blindspot
When Blindspot picks up, Ms. Alexander tells Entertainment Weekly that her character has had time to reflect, since the series left off. Jane has been held captive in a C.I.A. black location, so that has given her the time to think about how she wants to move forward. On the one hand, Jane feels guilt over the way Mayfair’s death came about, but Jaimie adds that her Blindspot character also feels as though she has been betrayed by her own team. Jane feels that they gave her up to the C.I.A., who have been relentlessly interrogating and beating her every day, since they took her into custody.
“She’s been beaten everyday for three months straight, so there’s a lot of anger and resentment going on and sadness, so it’s definitely a heavy start to the season,” says Ms. Alexander.
Jaimie reveals that, as Blindspot picks back up, Jane will be forced to work with those same team members, so regaining trust among everyone will become a major issue. Faced with remaining in C.I.A. custody or rejoining her team, Jane chooses to work with the team, but that doesn’t mean all is forgiven or that the past has been forgotten.
“She definitely cares about them all very much and she understands how angry, upset, sad, and devastated they are, but she also is as well. It’s all about trying to understand one another and trying to move forward,” explains the Blindspot star. “That’s going to be a very difficult process for awhile.”
Jaimie Alexander adds that her Blindspot character is going through a learning process, trying to work out how these agencies, the C.I.A. and F.B.I., work and also trying to understand the people with whom she has to work. Jane views the F.B.I. as a lesser threat, but she still lacks trust in her relationship with that agency. The Blindspot star says Jane knows there are bad people in both organizations, but she only has her own gut instincts to guide her in trying to figure out who she can trust.
