Heading into Week 3 of the NCAA football season, there are quite a few games to keep an eye on. Over the first two weeks of the season, we have seen quite a few upsets to go along with a few games that could have been massive upsets if a couple plays had gone a different direction.
Each and every week, it is intriguing to take a look at which games provide fans with the best chance of an upset.
Looking ahead at the slate of games for Week 3, there are a few that jump out as possible upset alerts. There is no telling how teams will show up from week to week, although some games simply have bad matchups for the favored team. Most of the time the favored teams can pull out wins, but that certainly isn’t the case each and every week.
Needless to say, the stage has been set for Week 3, and it will be entertaining to see how the games turn out. Every fan will have a different opinion of which games are potential upsets to watch, but there are a handful of games to call attention to in particular.
All of that being said, which five games should fans tune into if they want to see a potential upset in Week 3?
No. 10 Louisville Cardinals vs. No. 2 Florida State Seminoles
Obviously, this game won’t be considered a “big upset” if Louisville can find a way to knock off the Seminoles. Even though that statement is a fact, Louisville would still be pulling off an upset from a seed perspective. Both teams have college football playoff hopes, but one of them could lose those hopes this week.
No. 13 Iowa Hawkeyes vs. North Dakota State Bison
The selection of this game as a potential upset could ruffle some feathers in the Midwest. Iowa is a very good all-around football team, but the Bison are a team to keep an eye on. If the Hawkeyes come out expecting an easy victory, North Dakota State could give them a major scare.
Appalachian State Mountaineers vs. No. 25 Miami Hurricanes
Could Mark Richt and the Miami Hurricanes end up falling on the road against the Mountaineers? There is no question that this game falls into the category of a potential upset. Appalachian State only lost to the Tennessee Volunteers by a touchdown to open the season, and the Hurricanes will have to take this game seriously and come out looking for blood right off the bat to avoid an upset scare.
No. 19 Ole Miss Rebels vs. No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide
Chad Kelly and the Ole Miss Rebels are going to be a threat to Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide this week. Alabama will not have an easy time coming out with a win on the road. Ole Miss has a very good chance to knock off the top-seeded Crimson Tide and leap back up in the rankings themselves.
California Golden Bears vs. No. 11 Texas Longhorns
It has been great for college football to see the Texas football program restored back to relevance, but they could suffer a big loss this weekend. California is an underrated football team, and it won’t be easy for the Longhorns to walk into California Memorial Stadium and pull off a win. They are the favored team, but the Golden Bears could very well come away with the upset.
Expect to see at least one or two of these games end up being upsets when everything is said and done. There is always a chance that all of the favored teams take care of business, but don’t count on it.
Do you think that an upset will be seen in one of these five games? What other games do you think deserve to be on the potential upset list? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below!
