‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7: Is Gendry Returning? Production Spies Say Maybe [SPOILERS]
Warning: This article contains potential spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 7.
Game of Thrones Season 7 finally began filming in Northern Ireland earlier this month, giving fans the opportunity to partake in a favorite annual pastime: spotting GoT actors in and around Belfast.
Watchers On the Wall reports that fans ran into Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) at the Victoria Square Shopping Centre in downtown Belfast on Tuesday.
Apparently, the Stark sisters made a whole day of it and even stopped at a local tattoo parlor. Vanity Fair reports the tattoo artist posted on Facebook that Maisie had a date tattoo inked on her left arm, and “it was a matching one that Sophie got too.” Maisie later posted this cute photo with Sophie and the date “07.08.09,” which is rumored to be the day the pair met during Game of Thrones casting. A coincidence? Probably not. Maybe Maisie will show off her new ink at the Emmys in Los Angeles this Sunday.
Meanwhile, Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), Indira Varma (Ellaria), and Pilou Asbaek (Euron) have all been spotted around town, as has resurrected leading man Kit Harington (Jon Snow). No doubt Harington is enjoying being able to act normally and interact with fans while shooting Season 7. As Entertainment Weekly noted, while filming the first two episodes of Season 6, Harington had to remain hidden and even had a secret code name on the Game of Thrones set — “Lord Commander” or “L.C.” — to avoid spoiling Jon Snow’s epic comeback.

While it was thrilling for fans to meet these GoT actors, their sightings were not unexepected. However, one actor sighting this week definitely was a surprise and could provide major Game of Thrones Season 7 spoilers. WOTW reports Joe Dempsie (Gendry) was seen casually meandering through Belfast airport in a hoodie on Tuesday.
Game of Thrones fans remember Gendry was last seen in Season 3, rowing off into oblivion, never to be heard from again. His unfinished storyline started a hilarious social media meme that is still going strong today.

Could Gendry finally be ready to row back from the abyss and into Game of Thrones Season 7? Dempsie walking through the Belfast airport doesn’t prove he’ll be back on the show. However, WOTW notes he was also rumored to be in town in August and has no other known acting projects in Northern Ireland. He could simply be on vacation, but Vanity Fair points out people tried to claim Rory McCann (The Hound), Art Parkinson (Rickon), and Natalia Tena (Osha) were coincidentally in Belfast last year only to have them all appear in Season 6.
And as the Inquisitr already noted, Dempsie recently told Digital Spy he would love to return to Game of Thrones.
“It’s a bit of a loose end, and they don’t make a habit of leaving them untied — and actually as the series has progressed, the more ‘forgotten’ characters that have returned, the more Gendry sticks out like a sore thumb.”
He went on to say he’s ready to put Gendry’s meme out to pasture.
“There’s a lot of unanswered questions about Gendry and the longer it goes on, the more obvious his absence becomes. I mean, God, the amount of flippin’ memes I get sent on Twitter…whether they’ll bow to that pressure or not, I don’t know. But fingers crossed, because it’d be lovely to go back.”
What do you think of the latest Game of Thrones Season 7 spoilers? Are you excited Gendry may be returning? Are there any other characters you’d love to see come back?
