Sia Slammed With Lawsuit Over ‘Impersonal’ Concert Performance

Sia’s recent concert in Israel’s Tel Aviv shows that a performer’s on-stage personality is sometimes just as important to fans as the songs that are being performed. Moreover, the show proved that fans are ready to pay a premium to see their favorite star striking an interesting conversation with the audiences in an entertaining way.

Sia’s Tel Aviv concert formed part of her on-going world tour, and it has clearly disappointed some audience members who felt cheated after they attended the show, as the “Big Girls Cry” singer has been accused of not meeting their expectations. A group of concert-goers from Sia’s Tel Aviv concert has filed a $2 million class-action lawsuit against the show’s promoter for providing them with entertainment that they say was not worth the price they paid for the concert.

Despite performing her hit numbers like “Chandelier,” “Cheap Thrills,” and “Titanium,” the 40-year-old Australian singer has displeased her Israeli fans for not connecting with them during the concert. According to News Australia, a statement by the disgruntled concert-goers clearly shows that fans have been offended by the cold demeanor that the singer reportedly had during her performance.

“Even the live vocals felt impersonal, as the artist never once addressed the crowd, mentioned what it was like to be in Tel Aviv, or bantered in any way.”

Besides her attitude, it was Sia’s overall stage show that annoyed and disappointed several other fans. Many fans complained that the Tel Aviv concert was more like a recorded show than a live show as most of the time the audience was watching pre-recorded footage that showed celebrities like Kristen Wiig and Gabby Hoffman dancing to Sia’s numbers.

The Israeli fans had seemingly expected the Australian singer to team with local artists and stage a fantastic show in front of the live audiences. Some fans have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the length of the show that ran for only 65 minutes. However, it seems that the pre-recorded video footage that was played on the stage screen defeated the very purpose of the show, with fans asserting that they paid good money to connect with Sia herself, rather than watch video footage.

Moreover, Sia upset the fans by simply standing on the stage when the video footage was being played. According to News Australia, the audience’s angry comments reveal that Sia apparently failed to connect with her fans at all during the concert.

“She just stood there during the whole performance, toward the back of the stage and didn’t say anything other than ‘Thank You’ when the show was over.”

Sia has yet to release an official statement on the issue or make any mention of the lawsuit at all. However, the Independent reports that her tour promoter has released a statement asserting that the concert was “extremely successful” and that they had received “hundreds of comments from satisfied fans.”

“In addition, it should be noted that, to the best of our knowledge, the claim was not submitted against Sia herself.”

On the contrary, the singer is more focused on her upcoming performances and new releases. Most recently, Sia has unexpectedly launched a music video of “The Greatest,” Sia’s latest single, which can be streamed live from Spotify and Apple Music.

Sia has teamed with rapper Kendrick Lamar, who is heard rapping on the energetic song that has a distinct island vibe to it. Billboard reports that neither Kendrick Lamar nor his vocals feature in Sia’s music video that shows a 13-year-old Maddie Ziegler who follows her joyous dance routine along with a group of children as they move from one room to another in a dilapidated building.

According to another News Australia article, it seems that Maddie Ziegler, the talented dancer, has become Sia’s favorite on-screen persona since she featured in her 2014 song “Chandelier.”

“The Greatest” features on We Are Your Children, Sia’s upcoming eighth studio album, and its music video has been directed by Daniel Askill, who previously directed Sia’s previous music videos “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart.”
